Jokbal takeout in Chungju: half original, half garlic at Deomasitneun
In short
Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch is a fire-grilled jokbal (pig's trotters) restaurant in Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju. On a hot, humid day the writer called ahead and picked up a half-and-half order of original and garlic jokbal to eat at home: the original jokbal was tender with no gamey smell, the garlic jokbal was sweet and savory enough to keep the chopsticks moving, and a complimentary makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles) came with it. A solid takeout pick for an easy dinner after work instead of cooking.

My body was tired and the weather was hot and humid... I never cook over a stove even normally lol, and when picking a meal to eat out ha, I just kept craving something cool 😂 I wanted meat but wanted to eat it comfortably in a cool house, and the menu that came to mind was jokbal (pig's trotters)!

This time I picked up takeout from Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch, famous as a Seochungju jokbal restaurant.

Inside Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch: dining room and self-bar
Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch is a jokbal and bossam (boiled pork wraps) place on the 2nd floor of a building on Wonang-gil in Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju. Walking in, the interior looked really clean, so it seemed like a good spot to sit down and eat too.

When dining in the store, the self-bar was well set up too, so you could comfortably help yourself to whatever side dishes you needed — that was satisfying as well~

Since it was takeout, I looked around while waiting, and seeing things like disposable mouthwash near the exit door and a nostalgic gacha (toy dispenser), I could feel thoughtful little touches for customers everywhere.

If it were in my neighborhood, it seemed like exactly the kind of place to swing by after work and eat something delicious and cool before heading home. The menu was diverse too, so everyone can eat to their own taste — I got curious about the cold jokbal (naengchae jokbal) too!

Calling ahead for takeout pickup in Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju
At Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch, if you call ahead to reserve, you can get your takeout right away with no waiting. Since I'd already called ahead... I got my takeout and walked right out, and the inside of the car filled with the delicious smell of fire-grilled jokbal 😂 The drive home felt so long lol — unexpected self-torture ha.

What comes in the half-and-half jokbal: original plus garlic
This time I ordered the half-and-half jokbal from Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch, choosing the combo of original jokbal and garlic jokbal. ✔ Original jokbal ✔ Garlic jokbal Ordered half-and-half. I'd had the fire jokbal (bulljokbal) before and already knew it was good, so this time I picked a slightly different combination.

First off, the packaging was very neat! I was satisfied with that! The kimchi and side dishes looked delicious at a glance, so my expectations rose! Thinking about eating something delicious cool and comfortably at home made me very happy!

How the original jokbal tastes: tender, with no gamey smell
The original jokbal was warm, tender, and had a really nice chewy texture. No gamey smell, moist enough to eat plain, and it was delicious wrapped in lettuce, eaten with salted shrimp, or eaten with garlic — each way of eating felt different, so I never got tired of it to the end. As always, the basic version has to be good for the seasoned ones to taste good too.

Why the garlic jokbal was the surprise favorite
What I liked most this time was the garlic jokbal! It was sweet with a lively umami, so my chopsticks kept reaching for it. If the original jokbal is charming for its clean flavor, the garlic jokbal was addictive.

My husband and I both
I keep eating this.
we said, chopsticks never stopping. The meat itself had that fire-grilled flavor which I loved, and while sometimes a strong raw garlic taste can be a bit much to eat, true to its reputation as a Seochungju jokbal restaurant, the sweet, well-cooked garlic sauce was very appealing.

Is Deomasitneun jokbal good takeout for eating at home?
On hot, humid days, I think it's best to eat comfortably at home with the air conditioning on rather than sitting out for a long meal outside. The packaging was neatly done, and the jokbal stayed warm, which made it even more satisfying. With the complimentary makguksu on top, it was a great menu to eat heartily after work.

Verdict: half-and-half jokbal takeout at Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch
- Tender, chewy original jokbal
- Sweet, umami-rich garlic jokbal
- Clean flavor with no gamey smell
- Satisfying takeout condition
- Clean store with a self-bar available
- Good for both family meals and takeout
On a sweltering summer day, if you're craving a cool, delicious meat meal, I recommend Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch, a well-known Seochungju jokbal restaurant.
