When I first looked up Samsin Garosu-gil, the interior already caught my eye for looking quite upscale and pretty — and visiting in person, the atmosphere was even better than in the photos.

Booking a weekday lunch: no wait, and what the room looks like

When I think 'Chinese restaurant,' I usually picture a relaxed, casual vibe,

but this place felt clean and upscale overall, so it worked well as a date spot too.

We'd booked ahead, so we walked straight in with no wait. Even on a weekday lunch, quite a few people were already eating.

It seemed to draw a lot of nearby office workers, and I also spotted couples on dates, so it looked like a place suited to everything from an everyday meal to a special occasion.

The tableware caught my eye too — the gold accents set the mood before the food even arrived. It somehow made me feel a bit more cheerful than an ordinary meal.

We ordered Samsin Course A for two, priced at ₩25,000 per person. The course ran from Sokcho snow crab soup, through the handmade dim sum sampler xiaolongbao, Tokyo tangsuyuk, a main dish, and finally dessert.
First course: Sokcho snow crab soup

The first dish, Sokcho snow crab soup, arrived hot, which was a nice way to start the meal.
One spoonful in, I could pick up a subtle crab aroma and an overall smooth, mild flavor.

It wasn't a strongly flavored style, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy, and the warm soup gently settled my stomach for what was to come.
Handmade xiaolongbao at Samsin Garosu-gil

The xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) that came next were personally the most memorable part of the course. They looked like ordinary dumplings from the outside, but checking one closely revealed it was full of broth inside. A moist, savory aroma rose up and got me excited.

I ate the first one carefully, but bit right into the second — and the broth inside burst out, flooding the flavor.

They can be quite hot, so first-timers should probably take it slow.
Tokyo tangsuyuk, served tableside

The meat was cut thick, so each bite had real bite to it, and it was clean with no off-putting smell.

The batter was fairly crisp, and since the sauce was poured on right away, I could enjoy both the moist and crunchy parts together.

The sauce came with toppings like pineapple and cucumber, adding a sweet-and-sour flavor plus crunch.
Main dish one: Taean potato jajangmyeon
For the main, you can choose between Taean potato jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and meat jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), so we ordered one of each and shared.

The Taean potato jajangmyeon had that distinct jjajang aroma coming through strongly from the first bite.

Personally, of all the jajangmyeon I've had, this one had a particularly good aroma, and the savory flavor lingered in the mouth. The generous chunks of potato paired well with the black bean sauce too.
Main dish two: meat jjamppong

The meat jjamppong had a spicy, meaty aroma coming off the broth right away.

The meat pieces were generously sized with good chew, and the broth felt less about sharp spice and more about a somewhat heavy, deep flavor.

The noodles were chewy too, pairing well with the jjamppong.
Dessert: the pudding that ends the course

The last course item was pudding. Soft, nutty, and sweet,

it cleanly reset the palate after the spicy, salty dishes.
