Today I want to share a trip I took to a famous Sinchon burger restaurant when I was really craving a genuinely good handmade burger. It's right in front of Gyeongui Line Forest, so it's the kind of spot you can casually stop by while out for a walk! The space itself is super hip and distinctive, channeling that LA vibe straight through — so it was fun both to eat and to look at. This is Bored & Hungry Mapo.

From the Shrimp O.G. burger with its thick patty and springy shrimp texture, to the classic American-style Bacon Deluxe, and the addictive side of corn ribs plus a sweet-tangy corn salad — let me walk you through this satisfying lineup that's bursting with both visuals and juiciness.

Outside Daeheung Station Exit 4: the storefront and interior

Coming out of Daeheung Station Exit 4, Bored & Hungry Mapo sits right in front of Gyeongui Line Forest, so it was really easy to find. The whole building is covered in striking art graphics, so you can spot it from a distance!

Turns out Bored & Hungry actually started in LA, and it's known worldwide for incorporating famous NFT collection art throughout its stores. In Korea, the first location opened in Seongsu-dong, and this Mapo branch is the second. It's said to be one of Korea's best burger spots and one of the trendiest brands — one that even Snoop Dogg is a fan of — so my expectations went up even more. Space rental is also available, in case that's useful!

I visited around 1pm on a weekend, and as lunchtime went on, more and more customers kept coming in — a clear sign this really is a hot Sinchon burger spot.

Stepping inside, I was greeted by that casual yet distinctive, comfortable and hip atmosphere unique to American-style burger joints. The space was really neatly arranged, making it a great spot to stop by for a light meal.

It felt totally fine to visit alone and enjoy just one burger, but it also seemed like a great vibe to order a bunch of things to share with a friend or partner. The upbeat, fun music added even more to the hip atmosphere of the place.

Since it has an open kitchen, I could watch the burgers being made right in front of me, so the wait wasn't boring at all.

What I ordered this time was the Shrimp O.G. (₩12,400), Bacon Deluxe Single (₩11,900), and for sides, corn ribs (₩7,400), corn salad (₩2,900), and a soft drink (₩3,000)!

What is on the self-serve bar? Burger gloves, sauces and drinks

There's a well-stocked self-serve bar in one corner of Bored & Hungry Mapo, where you can grab utensils, sauces, wet wipes, and whatever else you need. What impressed me the most here was the hygiene gloves made specifically for eating burgers!

Handmade burgers tend to get sauce all over your hands, but eating with gloves on made the whole thing so much cleaner and more hygienic — I was really satisfied.

When you order a soft drink, you get handed a cup first, and then you can freely help yourself at the drink machine to whatever you like — super convenient. Also, ordering as a combo set with sides is much more economical, so don't forget that tip!

There were also cute store goods and stickers on display, so I browsed those while waiting for the food.

How the Shrimp O.G. and Bacon Deluxe Single taste

Burgers and sides set out on the table

Soon after, a staff member brought out my order.

The first thing I tried, the Shrimp O.G. burger, really stood out for its patty thickness right off the bat!

Shrimp O.G. burger with a thick patty

The patty is much thicker than at most other burger places, and as soon as I bit in, rich juices burst through my mouth.

The plump shrimp kept its springy texture intact, and the shrimp's mild yet savory flavor was excellent.

The thick meat patty combined with a savory, salty sauce, giving it a distinct charm quite different from a typical beef burger. If you love shrimp, this is a signature Sinchon burger dish you absolutely have to try!

Bacon Deluxe Single burger

The Bacon Deluxe Single is, true to its name, a classic American-style burger with a strong, savory, salty bacon flavor.

With crispy, salty bacon added to the juicy patty, the flavor felt even richer and more layered.

It's the kind of combination that could easily be too rich, but the fresh vegetables inside kept that heaviness perfectly in check. Thanks to that, I enjoyed it to the very last bite without ever getting tired of it.

Sides: corn ribs and corn salad

The corn salad, with its sweet, crunchy corn kernels and smooth sauce, did a great job of cleansing the palate between bites.

The corn ribs I ordered as a side were pretty striking just visually! The corn is cut into long strips and grilled, so you can just pick it up and eat it with your hands.

The outside is grilled to a golden, savory finish, while the inside stays moist with that sweet-and-salty corn flavor intact.

And the special chipotle-mayo-style sauce that comes with it is truly a treat among treats! It was the perfect side to reset your palate between bites of the burger's rich, salty flavors.

Is Bored & Hungry Mapo worth a visit?

From the Shrimp O.G. — with its thick, juicy patty and springy shrimp working perfectly together — to the addictive corn ribs, I got to enjoy a full spread of handmade burgers in a genuinely hip setting. Whether it's for a date along Gyeongui Line Forest or whenever you're craving a great handmade burger, this Sinchon burger restaurant, Bored & Hungry Mapo, is well worth a visit — I'd highly recommend stopping by!
