On a tiring weeknight in Euljiro, my husband and I headed to Hunta, a pork cutlet spot known as a local favorite near Euljiro-1(il)ga Station, to end the day with a good dinner.

First impressions of the restaurant

We got a great opportunity to visit as a sponsored meal. The moment we stepped inside, the clean and tidy interior along with the staff's warm, friendly service already put us in a good mood before we'd even eaten.

What we ordered as a couple

We ordered the hire (fillet) katsu set, which lets you enjoy the tender flavor of the fillet, and the cheese + kimchi jjigae set, which pairs crispy pork cutlet with a spicy, rich soup.

Attention to detail, even in the basic side dishes

From the moment the basic side dishes were set down, I could tell this place pays unusual attention to detail.

Cabbage salad topped with corn-scented dressing

The dressing on the cabbage salad in particular carried a savory, sweet hint of corn that clearly set it apart from your typical pork cutlet restaurant. Paired with the scallion kimchi and the generously cut, appetizing whole kkakdugi (radish kimchi), the combination with the pork cutlet was truly fantastic.

Generously cut whole kkakdugi

The sharp kick of the scallion kimchi and the refreshing crunch of the kkakdugi cleanly cut through what could otherwise feel greasy.

How was the hire (fillet) katsu set?

The hire katsu that came out next was, despite its thickness, wonderfully tender the moment I bit into it — a texture that drew a genuine gasp. It wasn't tough at all and was packed with juice, giving us a proper crispy-outside, tender-inside experience.

The cheese + kimchi jjigae set

My husband's pick, the cheese + kimchi jjigae set, didn't disappoint either.

The savory, stretchy cheese pork cutlet came with a deep, richly simmered kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), making it the perfect choice for anyone who wants both crispiness and spice at once.

Maybe because of the fresh ingredients, the stew's umami ran deep and clean, without any greasy or muddled aftertaste.
