Pumpkin birthday rice cake at Yeonhanbit, a Banghwa Station cake shop
In short
Yeonhanbit Atelier is a bean-paste flower rice cake (tteok) studio in Banghwa-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, about 338m from Exit 3 of Banghwa Station. For a parents' birthday, the writer pre-ordered a sweet pumpkin rice cake topped with soft pink and apricot bean-paste roses and picked it up in store, and its mild, barely sweet taste was easy for older guests to enjoy. Yeonhanbit Atelier suits parents' birthdays and also works as a Gangseo-gu rice cake gift.

Today I prepared a slightly special cake for my father and mother's birthdays!
A regular whipped-cream cake is nice too, but since it was for my parents' birthday, I wanted something that looked pretty but wasn't too sweet — something the older generation could enjoy without feeling weighed down. That's how I landed on an ssiagnkkot (bean-paste flower) tteok cake 🌸 This time I visited Yeonhanbit Atelier, located in Bangwha-dong.
Where is Yeonhanbit Atelier, and what is the shop like?
Yeonhanbit Atelier is at 27 Geumnanghwa-ro 15-gil, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, unit 101. It's about 338m from Exit 3 of Bangwha Station, so it was easy enough to reach by subway.
I went to pick up my reserved cake in person, and the shop had a cozy, quiet atmosphere.

It's not a big shop, but that actually worked in its favor — cute little props and flower decorations everywhere made it feel like I'd wandered into a little studio. Cute drawings were stuck on the walls, and I could see real bean-paste flower decorations too, so it was fun to look around while waiting.
And here's where I get to the part I was most happy with — the tteok cake itself!

Why a rice cake instead of a regular parents' birthday cake
While planning my father and mother's birthday party together, I really agonized over what kind of cake to get. Regular cakes look pretty, but the cream is so sweet that my parents often take a couple bites and go "too sweet~" haha.
So this time I went all in on a cake made of rice cake, and honestly, I'm so glad I did. Turns out tteok really is the best for older folks... ♥ It's lighter than a sugary cream cake, and it's easy to share piece by piece after a meal, so it seems like a great choice for parents' birthdays, 60th (hwangap) or 70th (chilsun) birthdays, or any special occasion for elders.
You might think a tteok cake sounds a bit old-fashioned in design, but that was absolutely not the case!

Yeonhanbit Atelier's bean-paste flower design looked better in person
I ordered the style covered in soft pink and beige roses at Yeonhanbit Atelier, and when I first saw the cake, I genuinely thought it was a real bouquet! Each rose petal was so delicate that it still looked pretty up close.
Overall the colors weren't bright or vivid — more soft pink, apricot, and cream tones — so it really suited the birthday table for my parents.
Happy birthday, Dad and Mom ♥
They even piped this message under the cake, making it a truly one-of-a-kind birthday cake! The photos turned out great too — the moment I took the cake out, I spent a long time just taking pictures haha. My parents were so happy the moment they saw it, asking "is this actually rice cake?" — which made me feel proud too.

How does the sweet pumpkin rice cake taste?
The flavor I picked was sweet pumpkin. It's not enough for a tteok cake to just look pretty — the rice cake itself has to taste good. Since it was a cake for my parents, I wanted to choose something that felt a bit healthier, so I went with sweet pumpkin.
When you cut into the cake, you can see the pumpkin inside, and eating it together with the rice cake gave off a gentle pumpkin flavor that I loved. Best of all, it wasn't too sweet! Unlike a regular cake where the sweetness lingers in your mouth after just one bite, this was clean and easy to eat.
With rice-based tteok plus sweet pumpkin, I felt like I'd made a great dessert choice for my parents. The bean-paste part, eaten little by little with the rice cake, balanced sweetness and lightness nicely, and it was more addictive than I expected. Most of all, seeing my parents enjoy it so much was the most rewarding part.

Does it work as a Gangseo-gu rice cake gift?
After receiving the tteok cake from Yeonhanbit Atelier myself, I thought it would work not just for birthdays or parents' birthdays but also for anyone looking for a Gangseo-gu tteok cake gift. Tteok tends to have fewer likes/dislikes across ages and genders, and it's easy to share piece by piece, so it's great for expressing gratitude at weddings, first birthdays (doljanchi), birthdays, or holidays.
Especially now that the designs are coming out this pretty, if you're searching for a Magok tteok cake gift or a Gangseo-gu rice cake shop while looking for a special present, it might be worth checking out a bean-paste flower tteok cake too. For the upcoming Chuseok holiday, giving elders a pretty rice dessert or tteok instead of an ordinary gift could be a thoughtful touch.

The verdict: a parents' birthday cake that landed
This cake, prepared for the birthday party, was satisfying from the visuals all the way to the taste. Most of all, the moment I brought the cake out and my father and mother said it was so pretty and loved it, I felt proud too 💗
It wasn't just a pretty cake — with chewy tteok and pumpkin inside, it was clean and not too sweet to enjoy, which made me feel like I'd really chosen well for my parents' birthday cake. These days, we tend to prepare similar cream cakes for every special occasion, but this time, thanks to the tteok cake full of bean-paste flowers, the birthday table felt so much more vibrant, and the photos turned out beautifully too 🌸
Since it's tteok, which elders love, it seems like a great choice not only for parents' birthdays, 60th, and 70th birthdays, but also for anyone looking for a Gangseo-gu tteok cake gift, a Magok tteok cake gift, or a holiday present. If you can't compromise on either taste or visuals, it might be worth trying a tteok cake at least once.
This time, my father and mother's birthday cake nailed the looks, nailed the taste, and hit my parents' preferences right on target — total success ♥ I think I'll be reaching for a tteok cake again for the next special occasion 🌷
