Magoknaru study café, weekend laptop seats & decaf: Pict Roastery

I had a reason to head out to Magoknaru after a while, and while searching for a café I got curious about a place that roasts its own beans — that's how I found Pict Roastery, a Magoknaru café. I'd also heard it was good for bringing a laptop and settling in, so I wanted to check that out for myself too.

How to walk to Pict Roastery from Magoknaru Station

Pict Roastery Magoknaru Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Magoknaru Station. Since it was my first time going, though, I got a little lost.

The building itself is big and the café is on the 2nd floor, so the sign doesn't jump out at you right away.

But once you find the right building, the signage after that is pretty well done, so it wasn't too hard.

Inside Pict Roastery: solo seats that work for laptops

Inside Pict Roastery there are about 7 one-to-two-seat tables and about 1 larger table. It's a seating layout that works well if you come alone or want to bring a laptop and work.

On the weekend afternoon I visited, it was fairly busy. Being a roastery café, it wasn't a purely quiet atmosphere, which actually made it feel more relaxed.

What's on the menu at Pict Roastery Magoknaru

Pict Roastery had a wider range than just coffee — the desserts and non-coffee menu were more varied than I expected, too.

There was also a sign saying the americano is ₩2,000 off on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00. I visited on a weekend so I didn't get to try it myself, but it's good to know for anyone stopping by on a workday.

Bean cards at the counter: a proper roastery café

In front of the counter at Pict Roastery, this month's bean lineup cards were lined up along the wall. There was Midnight Cacao Blend for a nutty concept, Aricha Bouquet Blend for an acidity-forward concept, and the decaf was separately roasted as Brazil Cerrado Decaf.

Beyond those, there were single-origin cards too — Colombia Rich Peach, Ethiopia Aricha G1, Colombia Finca, Colombia Campo — each labeled with variety, processing method, and tasting notes. It really made me feel like a roastery café is a different breed.

I visited late in the afternoon that day, so I didn't get to try a hand-drip or filter coffee, but next time I definitely want to pick one of these bean cards and try it as filter coffee. This time I ordered the matcha basque cheesecake and a decaf americano.

Kyoto matcha basque cheesecake: deep matcha, slightly bitter finish

With Pict Roastery's Kyoto matcha basque cheesecake (₩7,500), the matcha flavor came through quite strongly from the very first bite.

There was a slightly bitter note in the finish, but I actually didn't mind that level of bitterness.

Decaf americano at Pict Roastery: how it tasted

A lot of cafés don't even offer a decaf option, so I was glad Pict Roastery had a separate decaf americano. Since I visited a bit late in the day, I ordered decaf — it was ₩5,900, ₩1,000 more than the regular americano (₩4,900).

Even though it was decaf, I could taste a slight acidity, and it was a pleasant cup.

Is Pict Roastery Magoknaru worth a visit?

This time I only had the decaf and the cake since it was getting late, but looking at the bean cards by the counter kept making me think I want to come back and properly try their coffee.

With comfortable laptop seating and a decaf option, I had an easy, relaxed time here — next time I want to go with more time to spare and really experience that roastery-café flavor with a single-origin filter coffee.

Since it's set back inside the building, first-timers might get a little confused about the way, so I'd recommend keeping Naver Maps open and following it right up to the building entrance.
