Mild chicken hot pot set in Deuran-gil, Daegu: Golmok Naengmyeon 1966
In short
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu (골목냉면1966 대구) is a naengmyeon (cold noodle) and Korean restaurant on Deuran-gil in Suseong, Daegu, where many diners order dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) in autumn and winter. On a chilly day, the writer skipped naengmyeon for the Daegu-style dak hanmari set (34,000 won, with kalguksu noodles and 2 dumplings) and was happy with the clean, deep broth, fresh ingredients, friendly service and easy parking. Verdict: Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 is a Deuran-gil Korean restaurant worth revisiting for naengmyeon in summer and dak hanmari when the weather turns cold.

Why I picked chicken hot pot over naengmyeon at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu (골목냉면1966 대구) is famous for naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) in summer on Deuran-gil, but I noticed lots of people eat the dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) in autumn and winter too. The weather has turned chilly lately and I kept craving something hot and brothy, so this time I skipped the naengmyeon and ordered the Daegu-style dak hanmari set.

Is parking easy at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 on Deuran-gil?
Parking was easy, so I had no worries about driving there. Eating around Deuran-gil can be quietly stressful because of parking, so I liked that about this place too.

Daegu-style dak hanmari set: price and what comes with it
The Daegu-style dak hanmari set is ₩34,000 and comes with kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and 2 dumplings.

Every table at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 has sauces like seasoned sauce and soy sauce, so you can dip to your taste. I dipped the chicken and it was great. You can also add extra vegetables while you eat the chicken hot pot, which was nice.

How was the dak hanmari broth?
The broth at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 was seriously good, to start with. I like dak hanmari in general, but it had been a while since I had it in this whole-chicken style, so I was excited. When you go for shabu-shabu you usually dip thinly sliced meat into the broth, right? Eating it as a whole chicken feels quite different.

As the chicken goes in, the broth gets richer, and with the vegetables simmering in it too, it's clean yet deep, so I kept spooning it up. Chicken lovers will really like this. You just put the chicken and vegetables in together and let it bubble away, and maybe because the ingredients are so fresh, the whole dish felt clean!!!!!

Eating it with vegetables rather than chicken alone made it much easier to keep going without feeling heavy. The broth was so good that I wanted rice with it, and I thought it would work as a drinking snack too. If you're looking for a meal on Deuran-gil, it would be a fine lunch choice too.

Finishing the dak hanmari set with kalguksu and dumplings
Since the set at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 comes with kalguksu and dumplings too, it felt like a proper full meal right to the end. The chicken portion itself is quite hearty, so it suits a group visit as well. After you've eaten a good amount of chicken, adding the noodles is a treat of its own. The broth is good, so of course the noodles were good too. The dumplings came along as well and went nicely with the broth at the end.

A naengmyeon restaurant with a different menu for each season
Personally, I liked that Golmok Naengmyeon 1966's dak hanmari was tasty without being harsh or over-seasoned from start to finish. With a name like Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, I think many people know it as a naengmyeon place, but after trying the chicken hot pot I actually felt like coming back in another season. Come for chilled naengmyeon in summer, and for hot dak hanmari when the weather turns chilly. That sounds just right.

Good for parents and family as a Korean restaurant on Deuran-gil?
When you look for a good restaurant on Deuran-gil there are plenty of barbecue places and spicy, strongly flavored spots, so I was glad to find a clean, hearty Korean meal like Golmok Naengmyeon 1966. It looked good for coming with your parents or for a family meal in particular.

The staff were friendly, and the owner was really kind too, so I enjoyed the whole meal. Food matters, but when the staff are nice you just want to come back, don't you? Overall the ingredients were fresh, the food was clean, and above all the dak hanmari was far tastier than I expected, so I left satisfied.

Eating the vegetables and chicken together and then finishing with kalguksu makes a filling meal, so it also worked well as a Deuran-gil lunch. Next time I'd like to come in summer and try the naengmyeon. If you're after a clean Korean restaurant on Deuran-gil, or you love dak hanmari, Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 is worth a visit.
