Paju Munsan café
While driving around Imjingak looking for a café, I ended up at On the Rail. Getting there means actually crossing a real train track — pretty striking from the start.
Inside was spacious and relaxed, with a good variety of bakery items and big windows to look out at the scenery while resting. Best of all, it's open late, so it works as a drive-by stop by day and a Paju late-night café or late-night date spot by night. Here's this Munsan café worth knowing.

Crossing the train tracks to reach On the Rail
We were driving around Imjingak looking for somewhere to grab coffee, and that's how we found this Munsan café, On the Rail. On the way in, you cross an actual train track, which was more fun than expected.
A bit further past the tracks, On the Rail comes into view. Felt like we'd found the right Munsan café to take a break at during our Imjingak drive.

How big is the café inside?
After parking and stepping inside, the space felt bigger than I'd imagined. High ceilings made the interior feel airy, and tables were spaced comfortably. The exposed ceiling structure gave it a slightly industrial vibe, but plants scattered around kept it from feeling too cold.
Overall clean and comfortable feel.
Nice for sitting and chatting with a friend, and also good as a quick break during a drive.
The self-serve bar has takeout supplies ready, and baby chairs are also available.
What's on the bakery shelves at On the Rail
On the Rail is a bakery café, so the bread selection was varied too. Everything from pastries to baked cookies to pound cakes was laid out nicely on display.
Browsing the bread, something always catches your eye.
We definitely said "let's just get coffee" at first, but it was hard to walk past the bread without picking something up. 😂
We ended up choosing a few things in the end. Browsing the bakery corner slowly was one of the small pleasures of visiting On the Rail.
Sangtu-gwaja, einspänner and what everything cost
We ordered sangtu-gwaja (twisted sugar cookie) for 6,000 won, alligator pastry for 5,000 won, and a pound cake for 4,500 won. For drinks, an iced Americano for 5,500 won and the signature iced einspänner for 7,500 won.
With the bread and drinks laid out together, the table looked pretty plentiful.
Since cream coffee without whipped-topping sweetness is trending lately, I tried the signature one.
The einspänner had cream piled up on top, which looked pretty on its own, and the 'ON THE RAIL' lettering on the layer really caught the eye 👍👍
The coffee and bakery combo was truly perfect here!
The einspänner cream was so dense and smooth that I enjoyed it down to the last sip. The balance between the bitter espresso and the sweet cream was excellent, and it went perfectly with the bakery items we ordered. Thanks to that signature lettering on the cream, it was a treat for the eyes as well as the mouth.
The Americano was clean and unassuming, which made it a good match for the sweet bakery items.
The sangtu-gwaja was nutty and sweet. Bite-sized, so you keep picking up one after another, and it's mild enough that your hand just keeps reaching for more.
The alligator pastry had that crisp pastry feel — the crunch on the outside hits first, and the flaky layers made it fun to chew. Eating one after a long time reminded me of a bakery I used to love, haha.
A coffee stop on the Imjingak drive
On the Rail worked better as part of an Imjingak drive than as a standalone destination. The outdoor space was pretty well set up too, so stepping out for a bit of fresh air felt almost like a mini trip. 🌿 By day it's a relaxed drive-by stop, and by evening it's good for chatting late into the night as a Paju late-night café. A Munsan café that's great for pairing a drive with coffee.
Is On the Rail worth a visit in Paju?
Big windows throughout On the Rail let you see the outdoor scenery clearly from inside. With sunlight streaming through the windows, the whole interior felt warm and cozy.
With the special touch of crossing real train tracks to get there, plus a spacious interior and full bakery lineup, On the Rail was a great Munsan café to rest at during an Imjingak drive. Since it's open late, it also works well as a Paju late-night café in the evening, or as a casual Paju late-night date spot on a light drive.
Saw the train tracks, had some coffee, enjoyed the sunlight. This time, On the Rail gave us a little getaway feeling.
