Paju café in late-summer heat: fig bingsu with honeycomb, Fruit Forest

In short

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is a fresh-fruit bingsu (shaved ice dessert) café in the Simhaksan food alley on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. On a hot mid-September day, a family visit to Fruit Forest brought the fig snow bingsu at 28,000 won, with a whole piece of honeycomb sitting on melt-in-the-mouth snow ice beside soft fresh figs. There is no elevator, but parking is plentiful and dogs are welcome on the terrace, so Fruit Forest makes an easy stop after a walk on Simhaksan.

Mid-September, but the middle of the day is still summer. And what could taste better in that heat than a cool bowl of bingsu (shaved ice dessert)~~! I'm introducing a Paju bingsu spot where you can enjoy fresh fruit bingsu with a quiet view of Simhaksan — Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store!

There's no elevator in the building, so folks with limited mobility should keep that in mind. Still, the potted plants along the stairs give a refreshing feel on the way up.

Dogs can't come inside — only on the outdoor terrace.

Fruit Forest's bingsu menu and the fresh fruit on display

Walk in and the counter is right there — true to its reputation as a fresh mango bingsu spot, it was piled with fresh mangoes! The menu had plenty of variety: injeolmi red bean bingsu, peach snow bingsu, melon snow bingsu, fresh mango snow bingsu, 10-fruit bingsu, 10-fruit hwachae, and more. Fruit juice too, of course.

Just looking at all that colorful, fresh fruit lifts your mood. And since every bingsu is made fresh to order, it felt even more trustworthy.

Fruit Forest was full of that bright mango scent! The fruit looked so appetizing. They also do group orders, cup fruit, and gift sets. What's more, they pick out the sweetest fruit themselves at the first wholesale-market auction every dawn, tasting and checking by eye — the fruit is then ripened after arrival and cut to order, so freshness and sweetness are guaranteed!

Inside Fruit Forest: window-lined main hall and outdoor terrace

Right by the entrance there are tables, plus an outdoor terrace.

Further inside is the main hall — floor-to-ceiling windows, plenty of space, and quite a few people even on a weekday. I guess word's gotten around about this being a great bingsu spot, since families like ours seemed to make up most of the crowd.

This is a window-side outdoor terrace seat. The open field view outside felt like a breath of fresh air. With the breeze drifting through, you could catch a hint of autumn.

There's a pretty storybook-style illustration of a rabbit carrying a basket of fruit, as if it's about to whip up a delicious bingsu.

It's not just bingsu — they also have bakery items, so this is a fine café for grabbing some bread too.

What the 28,000-won fig snow bingsu with whole honeycomb tastes like

My first time trying fig bingsu! It looked appetizing just to see~~ The soft snow ice melted the moment it hit my mouth.

It's a totally different feeling from the red bean bingsu I usually eat. My mom, who loves figs, picked this one out, and the soft fig with its little crunchy seeds inside paired really well together.

Right on top sits a big piece of honeycomb. Instead of being drizzled on like syrup, the whole honeycomb is placed there, which gave it an even more luxurious feel.

The cool snow ice, the soft fig, and the deep sweetness of the honey came together in perfect harmony. Sweet, soft, fresh — a flavor I'm still thinking about!

Why Fruit Forest works as a stop after a Simhaksan walk

There are so many good restaurants around Simhaksan that I go often, and I loved finding a bingsu-specialty café here instead of just another generic coffee shop. Bingsu isn't only for summer, after all. With fresh bingsu made from seasonal fruit year-round, plus a range of drinks and breads, this is a great place to stop by after a walk around Simhaksan!
