Yeonnam-dong snack bar rabokki with ramyeon noodles: Eungkeum

For the weekend, my sister and I finally got to enjoy a relaxing, fun Yeonnam-dong date together! The streets were packed since it was the weekend, and I suddenly got a craving for something spicy and sweet — classic Korean snack food.

So we headed to Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch, which is basically a bullseye for two sisters who both love tteokbokki.

The moment we walked in, the energy was intense — no surprise for a well-known Yeonnam-dong hot spot 🔥 The delivery order alarm barely stopped ringing, and customers kept streaming in through the door too!

Even so, the space was kept neat and well-organized overall, and turnover and service ran smoothly, so we could sit down comfortably without feeling like it was chaotic.

What two sisters ordered at Eungkeum Tteokbokki

Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch has a wide variety of tteokbokki types and a solid lineup of side dishes, so it was genuinely fun to pick!!!

We're sisters who always prefer rabokki — tteokbokki with ramyeon noodles you slurp up — over plain tteokbokki, so we ordered the basic Eungkeum Tteokbokki + boneless fried chicken set with added ramyeon noodles, plus a very generous half-and-half mini gimbap (2 tuna, 2 vegetable) 😋

Eungkeum tteokbokki with extra ramyeon noodles: how chewy is the wheat-flour tteok?

First up is the main dish, Eungkeum Tteokbokki — the table has a built-in induction burner, so we could eat it warm all the way through.

A real strong point of this Yeonnam-dong favorite is that you can choose between wheat-flour rice cake and rice-flour rice cake depending on the texture you like 👍🏻

We usually prefer the soft, chewy wheat-flour tteok that soaks up sauce well, so of course we picked wheat-flour. The chewy rice cake was soaked through with a deeply savory, sweet-and-spicy sauce — one bite in and we were already impressed!

The added ramyeon noodles came out perfectly springy too, and we were glad we added them 🍜

How crispy is the boneless fried chicken?

We figured the tteokbokki + boneless fried chicken set would be a dream pairing, and ordering it turned out to be a great call 🐔

We started off eating it plain, then dipped it in the yangnyeom (seasoned) chicken sauce that came alongside it — sweet and spicy at once, it instantly transformed into yangnyeom chicken!

Dunking the crispy chicken straight into the spicy rabokki broth was also a real treat, so we got to enjoy it in so many different ways without ever getting tired of it 👍🏻

Half-and-half mini gimbap at Eungkeum Tteokbokki (2 tuna, 2 vegetable)

Last but not least is the mini gimbap that exceeded our expectations 200% — half-and-half with 2 tuna and 2 vegetable rolls!

True to its name, the gimbap (seaweed rice roll) was noticeably large and stuffed generously with filling — we were surprised the second it arrived. We got to try both the tuna gimbap, packed with savory, creamy tuna mayo, and the vegetable gimbap, full of fresh, crunchy vegetables, half and half — really filling 👏🏻

It's delicious enough eaten plain, full of the natural flavor of the ingredients, but dipping it into the spicy tteokbokki sauce opened up a whole new world of flavor 😋 It had been a while since I'd spent time with my sister, and it was so much fun — pairing that with delicious food made the date even more satisfying ❣️ If you want a failproof combo of chewy wheat-flour tteokbokki, crispy chicken, and hearty gimbap in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend this Yeonnam-dong favorite, Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch 💗
