Braised rib set with wine cellar in a hanok room: Pyeongtaek
In short
Suksudaega is a hanok-style Korean restaurant in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting on a weekday with her husband, the writer had the wangalbijjim jeongsik (braised short rib set) course for two in a private room, from the yueng and dongchimi to hanwoo tteokgalbi and slow-cooked galbijjim, and was especially struck by the wine cellar stocked with Dom Pérignon and Cristal. A great pick for a special-occasion meal that pairs Korean set dining with wine.

I booked Suksudaega because I wanted a quiet course meal with my husband. The braised rib set was great, but honestly the wine cellar was what really got me. If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Pyeongtaek, pay attention here!
A hanok-style Korean restaurant in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek
Today's spot is Suksudaega, a hanok-style Korean restaurant in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek. The name "suksu" itself refers to the professional chefs who prepared special dishes in the royal court during the Joseon dynasty. We visited on a weekday through a sponsored opportunity and ordered the braised rib set for two.

Hours, break time, and parking
The name is Suksudaega, and the address is 131 Gangbyeon-ro, Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
Hours are 11:30–21:00, with dining hall service until 14:45 and a break time from 14:30 to 17:00. I'd recommend booking ahead before visiting if you can.
There's a large parking lot both in front of and behind the restaurant, so parking wasn't a worry at all.

The photos above should help, and note that weekday and weekend prices differ!
The hanok exterior and the mood inside the rooms
Driving along, the hanok roof suddenly appears out of nowhere, and it's such a decent size that I wondered how a place like this ended up in this neighborhood. Pine trees line the yard, and walking in along the wooden deck path already gave off a sense that this was a special kind of place.
Inside, the wood-toned interior kept the quiet, tidy mood going. The layout has rooms opening off a corridor one after another, so we could talk quietly and eat by ourselves, which I really loved.
A wine cellar at a Korean set-meal restaurant
What surprised me the most, though, was something else entirely — the wine cellar. It was packed with bottles, rivaling any decent wine bar, and each one had its own price tag, making it easy to pick something out. Looking closer, I spotted champagnes recognizable by name alone, like Dom Pérignon, Cristal, and Krug.
This place is basically a great wine spot in Pyeongtaek.
I never expected to see a cellar like this at a Korean restaurant, so my husband and I spent a good while just looking around. Apparently it's gotten a reputation as a good wine spot even in Hwaseong, with people said to travel from there just to see this cellar.

Near the entrance they also sell Beopseongpo dried croaker gift sets, so if you're thinking about a gift, it's worth a look. With Chuseok coming up, it seemed like a good option for a holiday present too.
The braised rib set course, in order
We ordered the braised rib set for two. It comes as a course. It starts with a palate cleanser of yueng (a smooth pumpkin porridge that day) and tangy-sweet dongchimi (radish water kimchi),

followed in order by a seasonal salad, vinegared appetizer, shrimp with pine nut dressing, royal court bulgogi salad, royal court japchae, a special jeonyuhwa (pan-fried assortment), and hanwoo tteokgalbi (Korean beef short rib patties).

Every dish came plated so neatly that you get to enjoy it with your eyes first. The hanwoo tteokgalbi especially was crisp outside and packed with juices inside — moist and delicious.

The main slow-cooked braised ribs and kettle rice
The main dish, slow-cooked galbijjim (premium Canadian beef), came with kettle rice, side dishes, and doenjang soup. The ribs were so tender that they slipped right off the bone at the touch of chopsticks, and the seasoning wasn't harsh at all — just right. The side dishes and kimchi all showed the same care, and I felt like a glass of wine alongside a spread like this would be the perfect combination.
