After my first IVF attempt failed, the weather was just too~~~ nice, so I went for a mood-lifting drive to Yeongjong Island with my sister and our parents. We were heading toward Eulwangri when I heard there's a place that won the grand prize at the Incheon Jung-gu food competition for its octopus stir-fry and octopus pancake.
That place is Haesanggung. I'm not sure it had a single grain of MSG in it, but it was delicious — here's my review of the abalone octopus stir-fry set!!

How are the outdoor tables at this dog-friendly Yeongjong restaurant?
The parking lot is seriously spacious.
There are outdoor tables running along two sides of the building. Dogs are allowed out there, and quite a few people had come to eat with their pups. Now that fall's arrived, the breeze is so nice. Even during the day, sitting in the shade meant it wasn't as hot as you'd expect. There's a waiting area too!!

I got even more curious once I heard it won the grand prize for a local Incheon Jung-gu specialty. Because octopus stir-fry, seafood noodle soup, and octopus pancake are honestly pretty common dishes on Yeongjong Island, so winning a grand prize with them felt really special! It's also been on TV's Live Information Show.
The inside was almost completely full. We visited at noon on a weekend, and it was still full when we left around 1pm.

There's the usual snack corner you always find at places like this, haha, and everywhere you look there are proud signs about Haesanggung's grand prize win at the food competition, haha.

A coffee vending machine, celebrity autographs, and — unusually — even etiquette guidelines for dog owners, haha. Apparently you can bring your dog inside too!! That day though, everyone was eating outside, haha.
Descriptions that make you curious about the octopus stir-fry...
The origin labels and kimchi, haha. Apparently Haesanggung makes its own kimchi! The self-serve station is well set up too!
Haesanggung's menu and prices — what did 7 of us order?

My dad's eyes locked onto the abalone octopus set the second he saw it, hahahahaha. Move your finger, Dad, I can't see it. T_T
With 5 adults, one elementary schooler, and one toddler, we ordered the abalone octopus set for 4 (₩117,000) — octopus stir-fry x2 + seafood noodle soup x2 + whole octopus pancake x1 + turmeric rice x4 — plus one extra seafood noodle soup (₩13,000)!! Having a set menu made ordering so easy, hoho.
Haesanggung goes above and beyond for the little ones ❤️
My niece is still young! They gave us a high chair, and even though the noodle soup normally comes with pepper, they left it out and served the pepper separately.
The result... can you see her eating noodles while holding a red crab shell, hahahahahahahahaha. It was her first time trying octopus too, and she ate it so well it was almost too cute to handle. Seems like it's a hit with kids' palates too.
The whole octopus pancake already wins on looks alone..

Enter the majestic boss! A whole octopus laid right on top, so it catches your eye immediately, haha. Instead of chopped-up seafood scattered through the pancake, having one whole octopus on there makes it obvious at a glance — wow, that's a lot of octopus!

The pancake itself is fried thin, so it's crispy and nutty.
I personally prefer this thin, crispy style over the thick chewy kind, so this was totally my type... Dipped in the soy sauce, the sour-salty flavor is even more memorable.
The seafood noodle soup — this was totally my thing..
The 1-serving and 2-serving seafood noodle soups came out separately, haha. Even the 1-serving portion is really generous.. This is what the 1-serving noodle soup looks like!!
And this is the 2-serving one — bigger and more, haha.

The reason it was genuinely delicious, haha — it's seasoned really nicely salty. The broth soaks all the way into the noodles, so even just the noodles alone taste amazing. No wonder my nieces and nephews kept inhaling the noodles..

The seafood is so generous too — shrimp, red crab, mussels, clams, hard clams, and more are packed in, and probably because of that the broth is so refreshing.
No exaggeration, the two kids ate almost all the noodles in the 1-serving noodle soup, haha.

Eat up and grow big, haha.

The adults liberally sprinkled on the pepper they'd set aside separately. That's the taste of adulthood right there. The broth was so good I think I kept scooping it up, haha.
Abalone octopus stir-fry with no artificial capsaicin

In a word, I think this is genuinely the first time I've tasted octopus stir-fry like this. A flavor with zero MSG. It's very different from the intensely spicy, smoky-fire-flavored octopus stir-fry we usually think of.

They say it's seasoned with no artificial capsaicin, using just 10 ingredients like red pepper flakes and garlic — and sure enough, the first bite hits you with the heavy, distinctive flavor of red pepper flakes first.
Then comes a slight spiciness, and — how should I put it — I think there's a faint tang too, haha.
It's closer to a healthy-feeling octopus stir-fry that really brings out the ingredients' natural flavors, but also gives the sense that cooking it this way at home would never taste like this, haha. You really have to try it yourself. I get why it won the grand prize at the food competition.

There were 6 whole pieces of abalone in it, 4 shrimp, and the octopus was hefty too — such a satisfying dish.

It wasn't very spicy for me, but apparently they can make it even milder on request! Even people who can't handle spice should be able to enjoy it here, haha.

You also get bright yellow turmeric rice, and mixing it with the bean sprouts is ridiculously good.. Then when it gets a bit dry in your throat, you just gulp down the noodle soup broth.. that combo was absolutely the best, hoho.
You can see how well we ate... we scraped the plates clean...
There's a small garden behind the restaurant, so kids or dogs who finished eating first were being taken for a little walk by other customers, hehe. We ate so well and left happy, haha.
