Charcoal pork galbi and doenjang stew for family dinner in Gimpo

In short

Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch is a charcoal galbi restaurant in Yangchon-eup, Gimpo, Gyeonggi, known for its spacious dining hall and garden that draw plenty of family diners. Ordering the pork galbi and chadol doenjang stew (soybean paste stew with beef brisket) with parents, the galbi grilled tableside on charcoal turned out mild and clean-tasting, while the stew was deep and rich thanks to the brisket. A no-fuss pick for families with different tastes who want meat and stew together.

A Gimpo Guraedong spot I'd recommend for a family meal out: Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch.

My family decided to eat out together after a while, so we headed to Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch near home for some good galbi (grilled short ribs). There are two Jeongwon Galbi locations, and the one toward Masan-dong is the Gimpo main branch!

Why so many families: the spacious hall and garden

A lot of people come to Jeongwon Galbi for meals, and among them I noticed especially many families. A spacious dining hall and an actual garden space — I could see why it's such a popular spot for family dinners.

Spacious dining hall with generously spaced tables

The tables were spaced generously apart and everything felt cleanly maintained overall, making it an easy place to bring parents to.

There's plenty set up for kids to play. Sure enough, lots of families with children were visiting Jeongwon Galbi — the whole layout felt comfortable for family visits.

After finishing your meal, coffee and ice cream are also available. You do have to pay, but at a low price you can relax in the garden a bit longer before heading out.

Banchan and the pork galbi

The banchan (side dishes) were laid out cleanly and quickly.

What we ordered that day was the Jeongwon pork galbi. It was well seasoned, so the meat's natural flavor came through alongside the char-grilled smokiness. This is the Gimpo Guraedong spot I come back to whenever I'm craving galbi, since it's near home. Actually there's beef on the menu too and plenty of side dishes, so if you're after good meat, I'd recommend Jeongwon Galbi.

Clean, tidy banchan, good alongside the meat too. My favorites were the warm japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and the crab.

What's the self-grilled charcoal galbi like?

Once the charcoal was ready, we started grilling right away.

You grill the meat yourself. The smell while it cooked was already mouth-watering. Taking a bite, it wasn't seasoned too strongly — mild and clean, but with the savory flavor still coming through.

It clearly suited my parents' taste too, since their chopsticks kept going back for more. The meat was tender and easy to chew, and the fat wasn't excessive, so we could keep eating without feeling greasy.

Wrapped with the ssam (lettuce wrap) vegetables, it felt like a proper, filling meal.

The chadol doenjang stew we also ordered

We also ordered the chadol doenjang stew. With brisket added into the savory soybean paste base, it had a much deeper, richer flavor than a regular doenjang stew. The rich brisket fat blended with the soybean paste, so every spoonful felt deep and full-flavored. It went great with rice, and was perfect for cleansing the palate between bites of meat. It was also fun having the whole family dig in together with their own spoons.

Having both a grilled meat menu and a stew menu meant family members with different tastes could all be happy. It's a flavor everyone from kids to parents can enjoy without complaints, so I can easily recommend it as a family dinner spot. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable too, making it a nice place to sit and chat over a meal with family after a while.

In short

If you're looking for a family dinner spot in Guraedong, I'd recommend Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch. A place where you can enjoy both the clean, savory taste of the pork galbi and the deep broth of the chadol doenjang stew. A Gimpo Guraedong restaurant I can recommend without hesitation, whether you're bringing your parents or your kids.
