In short

The salt, marinated and spicy ribs are 13,500 won for 250g each, pre-seared in the kitchen and then finished over charcoal at the table, with rice balls and a free cauldron of seafood sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup) on the side. Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi in Hyangnam: how long is the wait?

I was looking for somewhere to have dinner in Hyangnam and ended up at this charcoal jjokgalbi (short rib) spot, Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi. Basically, the wait here is no joke — I was number 17 and waited about an hour. I strongly recommend everyone book ahead on Catchtable. During peak dinner hours, you absolutely need a Catchtable reservation.
What we ordered: salt, marinated and spicy ribs, 250g each
I ordered salt, marinated, and spicy flavors, 250g each. Personally I thought the salt was the tastiest. Turns out the original really is the best, haha.

250g for 13,500 won is really good value, and the portion is surprisingly generous, so it was great for two people to share. And the whole grill-it-yourself-over-charcoal vibe was so nice. Putting on gloves and grilling over the fire kind of felt like camping? You know that feeling, right? This would be totally worth visiting even paying with your own money.
The meat comes pre-seared, so it cooks faster and you can start eating right away — love that.

That romance of eating with gloves on, haha... The owner was also really kind — whenever a side dish ran low on our table, they refilled it right away (genuinely so thoughtful).

Rice balls and the free cauldron seafood sujebi
Haha, it just wouldn't feel complete without the rice balls, right? The rice balls were really light and went great with the jjokgalbi. But the real star... no wait, how is this free? Drumroll please... sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup)... cauldron seafood sujebi...

It's packed with seafood, and honestly there's no better drinking snack than this. It's spicy and clean-tasting, so you just keep eating, haha. If you're looking for a great-value spot in Hyangnam, I highly recommend this place. There really aren't many good rib restaurants in Hyangnam 2 District, so finding such a unique jjokgalbi spot was so satisfying, haha.
Inside Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi: seating and layout
There seem to be about 10 tables, mostly 4-seaters. Turnover is decent, and honestly the vibe is just so good that it's the kind of place worth waiting for. I haven't seen many places in Hyangnam with this kind of wait — now I've got another one to add to the list!

The tables are spaced pretty well and fairly wide apart, so it's great for a family dinner out, and with that camping vibe it's a great date spot too. On a chilly day like this, charcoal vibes plus sujebi... it's just perfect, so if you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Hyangnam, head straight to Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi.

The font on the signs is so cute... and if you don't want to get up, just call the staff, haha, genuinely funny. When you order meat it comes pre-seared and takes about 10 minutes, so it's really easy to eat once it arrives — totally satisfied!
Is Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi worth it? Final verdict
If you're looking for a good rib restaurant in Hyangnam 2 District, you'll be very satisfied here. Book ahead with Catchtable and you can walk right in when you arrive — make sure to note that down. This was such a charming, great-value spot in Hyangnam. The owner and staff were all so kind, the jjokgalbi was delicious, and the value for money really adds a lot to the experience!
