Busan meat restaurant near Gwangan Station: ogyeopsal at Myeongseung
In short
Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi is a Jeju pork restaurant a 2-minute walk from Gwangan Station in Suyeong, Busan. On a weekday evening, the meal started with 3 servings of ogyeopsal (thick-cut pork belly), added 2 servings of saenggalbi (fresh short ribs), and finished with doenjang stew and rice ordered in the 2-person size. The ogyeopsal was chewy, the fresh ribs were tender, and the doenjang stew came loaded with ingredients — every cut at Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi was worth ordering.

Ogyeopsal: black pork or white pork?
We started light with pork belly — you can choose between black pork and white pork. We went with the regular pork belly! They quickly set the table with basic side dishes, from vegetables to things that pair nicely with the meat.

Our freshly prepped pork belly arrived — the color alone was gorgeous.

You know how suddenly hungry you get once the meat shows up, haha! They quickly threw it on the grill. Our beautiful pork belly sizzling golden brown, the smell was insane! While it cooked, I got a bit lightheaded so I tried the side dishes — oh! You could tell the owner has real cooking skill, the sides themselves were delicious.

The 3-serving portion was genuinely generous. You might think two pieces of meat means a small portion, but the cuts are seriously thick.

How does the ogyeopsal taste?
At the end of the day, taste is what matters. I tried it the moment it was done — oh man, this is pork belly!! The chewiness was insane. The more you chew, the more the savory flavor comes through, and that chewy texture was seriously delicious!! No wonder it's a Gwangan Station favorite.

There were also plenty of side dishes to pair with the meat — the meat alone is great, but eating it this way is the real deal!!

They also gave us myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) to dip it in, warning: it's completely delicious that way!

Seasoned ribs sold out, so 2 servings of fresh ribs instead
The meat was so good we immediately added 2 more servings, haha. I originally wanted the seasoned ribs but they were sold out, so — sniff — we ordered fresh short ribs instead!

We should have ordered it right away to keep the flow going, but we got caught up eating and ordered late, haha.

The fresh ribs were much more tender than the pork belly and packed with juice — wow, I realized this place nails every single type of meat!!

Finishing with doenjang stew in the 2-person size
After meat, you absolutely have to finish with doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). We added one more bowl of rice and ordered the doenjang+rice, but upgraded the stew to the larger 2-person size. They even gave us two extra side dishes to go with the rice.
But seriously, was that amount of ingredients even real?! Not many places load a basic doenjang stew with this much vegetable — I was honestly shocked at how generous the ingredients were!!

After all that meat, a spicy-yet-refreshing bowl of doenjang stew hit the spot and gave me a perfect finish. If you're looking for a great barbecue restaurant near Gwangan Station, skip everywhere else and come straight to Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi.
