Haetan Hwaseong Byeongjeom is a squid restaurant on the 2nd floor of 1024 Hyohaeng-ro, Byeongjeom-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. Its signature dish is the hot-plate squid stir-fry, and it's known for being featured on 'Live Today' (생방송 투데이) and other shows, which made me curious to try it.

Above all, Haetan's signature combination is the hot-plate squid with flower pork belly bossam, so it's a great fit for anyone who wants to enjoy squid and meat together!

Hot-plate squid stir-fry: the smoky signature dish

The dish I was most looking forward to that day was of course the hot-plate squid stir-fry. Full of smoky flavor!

True to its status as Haetan's signature dish, the squid stir-fry comes piled generously on a hot plate, and the moment it hits the table, the spicy sauce and smoky aroma rise up and get your appetite going.

The squid had a plump, chewy texture, and the spicy seasoning soaked in well, making it great with rice too.

I especially liked that since it's on a hot plate, it stays warm throughout the meal!

Haetan promotes using good-quality raw ingredients as part of its philosophy, and officially calls the hot-plate squid its signature dish! So there's really no skipping it, haha.

Flower pork belly bossam: the mild match for spicy squid

The flower pork belly bossam (boiled pork) I ordered alongside went well with the squid! Where the hot-plate squid stir-fry is spicy, the bossam is mild and tender, so eating them together made a great combination.

Haetan also pairs the flower pork belly bossam with squid salad and baegmuk-eunji (white radish kimchi), so this squid-and-pork samhap (three-way pairing) style is one of Haetan's distinctive features!

Fried squid: order from a half plate

And crispy fried squid! This side dish couldn't be skipped either — it was top-notch. The outside was fried crispy while the inside was plump with squid, making for a fun texture.

Eating it alongside the spicy hot-plate squid gave a crunchy break in between, letting me enjoy an even wider variety of flavors.

Haetan Hwaseong Byeongjeom offers fried squid from a half-plate up to a full plate, so you can choose based on how many people you have!

Beyond the hot-plate squid, the menu also includes hot-plate spicy pork, hot-plate squid & pork mix, flower pork belly bossam, boiled squid, spicy squid salad, squid hangover soup, minari clam soup, and whelk bibim noodle soup! I think Haetan's appeal lies in offering so many different dishes centered around squid :)
