Today I visited Ryu-eun, a Korean bar in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. It is a place where you can enjoy traditional Korean liquor, cocktails, and fusion Korean anju (food served with drinks) in a quiet, cozy atmosphere.

Where should I park for Ryu-eun?

Ryu-eun does not have its own parking lot, so you will need to use a nearby public lot. Please refer to the parking information listed on Naver Place!

Jangan-dong Public Parking Lot: ₩400 for the first 30 minutes / ₩6,000 daily

Looking only at the daily rate, Hwahongmun Public Parking Lot is the most affordable, so that may be useful to know. Parking fees can change, though, so I recommend checking Naver Place once more before you visit.

Ryu-eun had tables where you could dine outdoors as well as inside. When the weather is cool like it has been lately, you know how having a drink outside can make you fall for the atmosphere!

Ryu-eun also has seating on the second floor. Maybe it was the chandelier, but the second floor felt a little more upscale and calm overall.

Everything was neatly arranged, so it looked like a nice spot for drinks with friends or for a date.

Personally, I pay quite a lot of attention to restrooms at bars. The restroom on the second floor was clean and well maintained, and being indoors made it convenient to use.

There is a wide variety of fusion Korean dishes on the menu. The drink selection is quite varied, too. From distilled spirits, fruit wines, and yakju (medicinal rice wine) to highballs, makgeolli (Korean rice wine), and non-alcoholic drinks, there seemed to be something to choose based on your taste.

For the basic snack, they brought tofu crackers. They were lightly seasoned and mild, making them nice to nibble on one by one while waiting for the food.

The mala aroma hit right away with the first bite, so anyone who likes mala will probably love this. With beef belly, wood ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, and more, it also had lots of different textures when eaten together.

It had mala's distinctive aroma along with the rich flavor of beef belly, so personally, I think it would pair well with beer too.

The shredded potato pancake was generously filled with cheese, including cheddar, so it was savory and salty. The truffle aroma made it feel quite different from an ordinary potato pancake.

When it felt slightly underseasoned, dipping it into the soy sauce that came with it made the seasoning just right. If you like pancakes with cheese in them, I think you will enjoy this one 🧀

First of all, I liked that the chicken came boneless, making it easy to eat. There was also a good amount of thick daechang (beef large intestine), so I would recommend this menu item to anyone who likes it! Eating the daechang with the broth brought out a rich, deep flavor—anju that would go so well with soju!

I ordered the non-alcoholic lemon squash instead of alcohol. It was tangy and sweet, and with the anju, it felt like it freshened up my palate now and then. It seems like a good order if you cannot drink alcohol or want to enjoy the anju with a light beverage.

How Ryu-eun felt on a weekday evening

Around weekday rush hour, customers started coming in one by one. Rather than a loud, crowded bar, it was a good place to visit when you want a drink with tasty Korean anju in a slightly calmer setting. Above all, maybe because I am such a Korean-food lover, I liked that there were so many Korean-based anju options. If you are looking for an atmospheric bar or Korean pub in Haenggung-dong, give Ryu-eun a visit for its fusion Korean anju and varied drinks :)
