Suwon Korean restaurant for spicy seonji soup: Eolkeunhan Ppyeo

When you need 24-hour hangover soup in Ingye-dong, Suwon

I went to Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch because I was craving a spicy, warming broth for dinner. Since it is open 24 hours, it is handy when you are looking for somewhere to eat late, and it also seemed like a great place to stop for hangover soup after drinks :)

There is a parking lot in the building basement, and I heard it is free for up to two hours. We were there for drinks that day, so we left the car behind haha. Leaving the car at home really does put your mind at ease when you are drinking!

A setting for solo meals or group dining

I visited at dinner time, and the interior had an overall clean feel. It did not feel awkward to come alone for a meal either, so I imagine there are plenty of solo diners too!

There was also a room-style area on one side, so it looked suitable for a group meal when visiting with several people.

Spicy seonji hangover soup and pork bone soup

We ordered pork bone hangover soup and seonji hangover soup! We ordered both spicy. You can choose from mild, regular, spicy, and extra-spicy levels depending on your preference. I usually love a fiery broth, so I picked spicy without hesitation, but now I am curious just how hot extra spicy must be…

The soups we ordered came out sooner than expected. Seeing them served in steaming ttukbaegi (earthenware pots), with lots of ingredients in that spicy broth, made them look delicious before I had even taken a bite haha.

Spicy and nutty seonji hangover soup

I started with a spoonful of the seonji hangover soup I ordered. Since it was labeled spicy, I expected it to be just a little hot, you know? But it had more of a sharp kick than I expected, which was perfect for someone like me who likes spicy food. It was not aggressively hot for the sake of it, though; the warming broth and spicy kick came together in a way that was just right with rice!

It was full of varied ingredients, from ugeoji (seasoned outer cabbage leaves) and seonji (coagulated beef blood) to bean sprouts and beef intestine, so it really filled me up as I ate. The seonji in particular had no off smell, and it was nutty without being dry! We had come for drinks in the evening, but having hot, spicy hangover soup alongside them made me feel as though I was recovering even while drinking… 🌀 This seonji hangover soup works wonderfully as a drinking snack and is also a solid meal with rice 👏

Pork bone hangover soup with big pieces of meat

The pork bone hangover soup my younger sibling ordered also had quite large pieces of meat attached to the bone.

The meat slipped neatly off the bone, so it looked easy to gently pull apart with chopsticks. There was a generous amount of meat too, and it felt like the kind of meal that would really fill you up if you mixed rice into the broth and topped it with a piece of meat! If you enjoy spicy broth, I think you would be more than satisfied ordering the spicy level. Next time, I am going to take on the extra-spicy level too… I am so curious how much hotter it is…

Finish with free ice cream after your meal

There was ice cream ready for dessert too. Such a thoughtful touch from the owner ^__^ You can take one for free per person, so it was perfect for freshening up after the meal. We filled up on hot, spicy hangover soup and finished everything off neatly with ice cream 👍
