Suwon café for Basque cheesecake: Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters

In short

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is a roastery café in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I tried coconut coffee, Basque cheesecake, and an Americano while exploring its vintage second-floor seating and coffee goods. Verdict: a café I want to return to for both sweet and deep coffee.

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is famous in Haenggung-dong, and lately I’ve even seen it opening in department stores! Seeing it spread farther and farther around Suwon made me curious about just how good the coffee was, so I visited the Haenggung Main Branch!! Once I got there, it turned out to be a Haenggung-dong café with such an unusual atmosphere, rich coffee, and delicious desserts too!

A Haenggung-dong roastery filling the whole building

The exterior itself is nothing especially unusual, but this entire building is Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters… it’s a seriously large coffee shop 👍 The coconuts visible as you walk by definitely catch your eye too^^ And to think the coconut they’ve sold 1.11 million cups of is coffee—you have to try it, right? haha

Inside

Café goods in the basement ordering area
Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters goods and drip bags

In the basement, there were such pretty goods along the way to order~ From the Suwon Wiz Park T-shirt, the vibe was amazing, and I don’t know whether the globe was for sale, but it was pretty. As you’d expect from a coffee roaster, there were lots of drip bags too~ I’ll introduce them in more detail with the menu!!

Vintage-style second-floor seating
Second-floor café seating overlooking the window

These are the vintage-feeling second-floor seats~ There’s lots of group seating, and the windows give you a great view outside, perfect for looking at the autumn sky~ The chairs aren’t all one kind, so you can choose the one you want to sit in! Such an individual, distinctive interior~><

Ordering area, desserts, and goods

Stairs leading to the basement ordering area

Since the ordering counter is downstairs, head to the basement first~ There’s a sign on the stairs saying one drink per person. The first floor is where they roast coffee, and the second floor is for seating~~ They also have a rooftop, apparently!!

Coffee and non-coffee drink menu

It was late, so I came for decaf~ They say pregnant customers can switch for free. Hand-drip, coffee, non-coffee drinks, and even beer!!

Basque cheesecake and fig cake
Cheesecake and fresh cream cake desserts

The Basque cheesecake we ordered, and a pretty fig cake too>< Both the cheesecake and fresh cream cake looked so delicious that I went back and forth over what to get.

Fig and kiwi sando desserts
Sando topped with fresh fruit

They also had sando (Japanese-style fruit sandwich), which I’ve been totally into lately~~ There were fresh fig and kiwi versions!! The fruit pieces were big and generous.

Display of honey rusks and birthday candles
Café desserts and birthday candles

There were good-value honey rusks and even birthday candles ready for anyone celebrating. You may have a birthday cake, but if there are no candles, it’s honestly a disaster… The birthday candles were ridiculously cute haha

Suwon city mascot birthday candles

I had no idea Suwon’s city mascot was this cute~ The frog is so green, and there were all kinds of cups too~~!!

Display of drip bags and instant coffee

They have drip bags, plus instant coffee in every kind: dark, medium, and decaf! It was my first time seeing a place selling instant coffee haha Maybe it’s for people who are lazy like me~~ It’s also thoughtful that each type comes in a different color.

What does the coconut coffee taste like?

Sweet coconut coffee drink

The coconut coffee had a really intense coconut flavor~ It was sweet with a subtle coffee aroma, so I completely recommend it to anyone who dislikes coffee’s bitterness. It isn’t an ordinary menu item like a vanilla latte, which makes it feel even more distinctive and one of a kind~ If you like sweet coffee, I think you’ll like it haha The coconut also felt exotic, almost like coffee you would drink abroad, and a little like the coconut water celebrities have apparently been drinking lately haha

Moist and dense Basque cheesecake

Moist and dense Basque cheesecake

The Basque cheesecake was moist and dense—this Basque cheesecake lover enjoyed it so much haha Sweet, with a pleasantly fresh tang. With coffee, it disappeared in the blink of an eye, which honestly caught me off guard haha It isn’t a small portion, but it tasted so good that it felt small~ The price was reasonable too.

A rich, deep Americano

Americano with a rich, deep flavor

The Americano was what my mom ordered. My mom, who really knows her coffee, said it was delicious: an Americano with a truly rich, deep flavor! It wasn’t simply bitter and had all sorts of flavors, while the beans felt especially fresh because this is a coffee roaster. It was a taste I wanted to drink again~

One-line review

  • Fresh, directly roasted coffee
  • A Haenggung-dong date-course stop
  • Unusual coconut coffee
  • A great place for classic Basque cheesecake

There are lots of pretty, delicious cafés for a date in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, but Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is famous for a reason, so I want to come often haha
