Korean restaurant near Seoul for a day-trip drive: Gim Myeongju
In short
Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang is a Korean restaurant in a Bucheon back alley near Ggachiul, offering a 12-banchan self-refill bar. Stopping by on the drive back from Songdo to Seoul, the writer ordered two servings of the Tteuranchae Bapsang set plus a charcoal-grilled pork side dish, loving the fried eggplant, spinach and kimchi, while the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) was generous enough that no refill was needed. With easy parking and a private room, it's a solid pick for a Seoul-area drive combined with a family meal.

Went to my cousin's place in Songdo and got to see Seon-i again after a while (can't believe she's already starting elementary school next year..), and on the drive home I got so hungry I stopped at this Bucheon spot!

Putting your own name on the sign, "Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang"? That's a good-restaurant flex. Like Kim Youngmo.

Parking and hours
Parking gets so much easier the moment you leave Seoul... living in Seoul is rough.

The seating is spacious, and there's a private room too. Great for a big family group!!

Menu, prices, and self-serve banchan refills
- Tteuranchae Bapsang set: ₩13,000 (per person)
- À la carte dishes: Borigulbi (dried salted yellow croaker) ₩18,000 / Soy-marinated crab ₩18,000 / Charcoal-grilled pork ₩18,000 / Seasoned cockles ₩16,000 / Grilled mackerel ₩16,000
- À la carte dishes can also be ordered as a full set meal
We ordered two servings of the Tteuranchae Bapsang set plus charcoal-grilled pork as an à la carte side. The biggest feature of the set menu is that it comes with a whopping 12 banchan, and on top of that, the banchan are self-refill, so you can go back for as much as you want of whatever's running low!
*Rice and even the cheonggukjang are freshly made for refills, but japchae isn't kept at the self-bar since it can spoil, so you'll need to ask for it separately*

Ta-daa, so generous right?

All the banchan were good, but the fried eggplant and spinach were especially amazing, and the kimchi was excellent too.

Charcoal-grilled pork, cheonggukjang, and hot stone pot rice
The charcoal-grilled pork we ordered alongside the set. You could really feel that subtle charcoal aroma, which properly stirred up the appetite. Cut into easy-to-eat pieces and eaten with rice, the meat's flavor came through even richer. Good wrapped in lettuce, or just eaten plainly with rice — either way it paired well, and with the many banchan the meal felt even more filling.

The cheonggukjang~~ the rich broth flavor was a solid 👍🏻👍🏻 and apparently that's refillable too!?!! But the portion was more than enough so we didn't need to.

Hot stone pot rice🍚 I love the crispy nurungji (scorched rice) part.

What's at the self-bar
And here's the self-bar.

From assorted seasoned vegetables to braised potatoes, fried eggplant, and even the rice cooker! Help yourself freely.
Usually at Korean restaurants I end up agonizing over which banchan to pick, but here I could taste a little bit of many different dishes, which felt way more satisfying. From basic side dishes that pair well with rice to ones that really perk up your appetite, the variety kept the meal interesting instead of getting tired of one thing.
Even when visiting with several people, everyone can refill as much as they like of their favorite banchan, so it seems like a great spot for a family meal or any day you want a hearty meal.

When to go
Overall, Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang gave off the impression of a place to enjoy a generous Korean meal in a relaxed atmosphere. It seems especially satisfying on a day you want rice and a well-rounded variety of banchan rather than something heavily seasoned. Looking at the whole spread laid out on the table, it almost felt like eating a proper home-cooked meal after a long time.
Above all, being able to self-refill 12 banchan felt like the restaurant's biggest strength. With such variety, I could alternate between different flavors over the course of one bowl of rice, and adding more of the ones I liked without worrying felt even more satisfying. Ordering the charcoal-grilled pork alongside made the whole spread even richer.
It would also suit anyone looking for a place to eat with family or wanting a hearty meal with parents. With so many banchan and free refills, it seemed like a good fit for both kids and adults to eat according to their own tastes.
Conclusion: it's tucked into an alley that feels like you're heading up a mountain on a drive out of Seoul, giving off a quiet, almost travel-like vibe — perfect for when you want a hearty, delicious spread.
