Anniversary dinner for two at B421, a wine bar near Sookmyung Station

For our wedding anniversary, my husband and I spent a while deciding where to eat dinner. Rather than a super formal course meal just because it was an anniversary, we wanted somewhere with good atmosphere where we could sip wine and eat slowly.

At the same time, we wanted somewhere that could handle a proper dinner — pasta, steak — rather than a wine bar with just a few small bites.

That's how we ended up at B421 near Sookmyung Station. We ordered pepperoni pizza, steak, and meatball pasta plus two glasses of wine, coming to ₩77,000 total.

B421 is on the 1st floor of 278-7 Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. It's close to Sookmyung Station, making it an easy spot to plan an evening around.

The first thing I noticed walking in was the lighting. The space is dimmer than a typical bright restaurant, so once evening set in, it really had that wine bar atmosphere.

It felt like a good place to sit at a table and talk over a meal — better suited to couples or spouses spending time slowly together than to something a little more tense, like a blind date.

Since it was our anniversary, we wanted a bit more atmosphere than an ordinary weeknight dinner, but without needing to be overly formal, so this fit well.

That day we ordered pepperoni pizza, steak, and meatball pasta, plus a glass each of red wine and port wine. The total came to ₩77,000.

We ordered a full dinner plus wine for two, and the portions were more than enough.

Most of all, with such a varied menu, it seems like a good option if you want to handle dinner and drinks in one place, rather than just going out for wine.

The first thing that caught my eye was the pepperoni pizza. When I lifted a slice, the cheese stretched out in a long pull — there was clearly plenty of it — and the pepperoni was spread evenly across the whole pizza.

The pepperoni's salty edge paired nicely with the wine too.

If we'd only ordered pasta and steak, the dinner combo would have felt a bit too serious (haha), but adding the pizza made it easy for the two of us to share comfortably.

The steak that paired best with red wine at B421

Personally, the dish that went best with the red wine that day was the steak. It came cut into easy, bite-sized pieces, cooked enough on the outside while staying pink inside.

Asparagus and other vegetables came alongside it, which made a nice break from eating meat non-stop. A bite of pizza, a piece of steak, a sip of wine — I got why wine bars sell so much meat.

Among the dinner items, the meatball pasta was also hard to skip. It used a thick short pasta rather than long noodles, so it was easy to eat with the sauce in each bite, and the meatballs made it more filling than I expected.

The sauce coated the noodles well, so the pasta didn't taste bland on its own, and it worked well slotted in between the pizza and steak.

Since we wanted both a wine bar and solid pasta near Sookmyung Station, this dish was pretty satisfying for us. If we only picked one dish for two people, I'd go for the pasta over a light drinking snack, since it doubles as a real dinner.

Red wine and port wine by the glass, one each

Instead of ordering a bottle, we had a glass each of red wine and port wine. Ordering a bottle means sticking to one type the whole time, but going by the glass let each of us pick according to our own taste.
