A Korean restaurant in Yongmun Market, Jjigaen Jjukkumi (찌갠쭈꾸미), at 60 Wonhyoro 41-gil, 1st floor, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

An octopus restaurant near Yongsan Electronics Market. Jjukkumi (baby octopus) is what I crave whenever I want something spicy 🐙 Stir-fried octopus is one of my all-time favorite Korean dishes — I'll even go out of my way to visit famous octopus restaurants in other regions. I happened to have errands at Yongsan Electronics Market and stumbled upon this octopus spot, Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch.

Where is Jjigaen Jjukkumi? Right by the Yongmun Market entrance
Unlike the pricey, Instagram-worthy hot spots on Yongni-dan-gil, Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch sits in a market alley full of everyday warmth. It's very close to the entrance of Yongmun Market and also a good spot to reach from Yongsan Station or Hyochang Park.
The vibe is unpretentious and welcoming. There's no fancy interior, but it's a comfortable place for a casual meal. The space isn't huge, but the tables are nicely spaced out and comfortable. The chairs even have storage compartments under the lids for your clothes, so no worries about your jacket smelling like grilled octopus.

Griddle cheese octopus, 16,000 won, in the basic spice level
The main dish, cheese octopus, arrives. Plump octopus soaked in spicy red sauce! To the side, snowy shredded cheese.
Since it's served on a hot griddle, you get to keep eating warm octopus the whole time. Dipping the octopus deep into the melted, gooey cheese and straight into my mouth.
Flying fish roe mayonnaise sauce with the octopus
Quickly mixed up the flying fish roe mayonnaise sauce. I ordered the basic (non-spicy) flavor so it wasn't spicy, but if you get the spicy octopus, this mayo sauce is essential! It mellows out the heat while amplifying the mayonnaise's savory richness.
Goes great with the smoky, chargrilled octopus! I normally don't like mayonnaise because it's too greasy, but the thick, rich mayo pairs perfectly with the spicy-sweet octopus.

Since the octopus comes fully cooked, all you need to do is warm it up as you go, which is convenient. It's great dipped in the mayo, and just as good wrapped in fragrant perilla leaves — a classic combo.

Thick rolled egg, 10,000 won
Tried the rolled egg (₩10,000) as a side dish. Steam rising off it instantly makes you hungry. Unlike thin, flimsy egg rolls that are just there for show, this one is layered thick and pillowy soft.

Soft and fluffy rolled egg. It's so filling I wondered how many eggs went into it. I got so full from this that I skipped the fried rice. I also saw a lot of people ordering kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), which seems like it would pair well with this too.
Is Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch worth a visit?
A convenient, easygoing place to eat if you have errands at Yongsan Electronics Market or Yongmun Market. It has a homey, not-too-intense flavor, the octopus isn't chewy, and the spice level is adjustable, so it works fine even if you can't handle spicy food.
