After the kids played their hearts out, my stomach started growling — "Let's have some good meat for dinner tonight!" So after enjoying the festival, we headed to Gim Sukseong (김숙성) Seongnae Branch, a well-known restaurant in Cheonho-dong.

The moment we stepped into that retro old-school pork belly restaurant vibe, I thought — whoa, this isn't ordinary haha. But this place isn't just about the atmosphere. Let me share my honest review of eating here with the kids!

Being so close to Cheonhodang Station made it easy to get to by public transit, and it was also a convenient distance from Cheonho Park after playing there with the kids.

Walking into Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch, I could really feel that retro atmosphere.

There are plenty of trendy, aesthetic meat restaurants these days, but a space with this kind of old-school feel has its own charm.

Somehow the vibe just seemed made for a bite of meat and a shot of soju haha.

We visited with our two daughters. After they'd played themselves out at the park, all I wanted was to sit down and eat as soon as possible 🤣

With pork neck for two and aged meat included, I thought it would be a good set for eating with the kids.

But the thing that really satisfied me was something else entirely — the taste of the meat itself! 🤤

How does the 20-day cross-aged pork taste?

Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch uses top-grade domestic Korean pork, cross-aged with 4 days of dry-aging plus 16 days of wet-aging, 20 days total. That's 480 hours of aging! I was already excited before the meat even arrived.

Finally the meat went on the grill and started sizzling away 🔥

And here's another thing I loved — the staff grill the meat for you!

Both my husband and I were honestly pretty worn out after playing with the kids at the park. Not having to flip the meat ourselves while frazzled, and having staff grill it perfectly, meant we could eat comfortably. They came by several times to cut the thick pork neck into bite-sized pieces.

My husband loved this the most haha.

Finally I tried a piece of the well-cooked meat.

Wow… it was so juicy and delicious.

It was pork neck, but instead of being dry it felt moist!

The pork belly was also savory and delicious.

The gabrisal had an appealing chewy texture.

My 7-year-old and I basically inhaled it 🤣

My 3-year-old ate enthusiastically too haha.

There's something weirdly satisfying as a mom when your kids eat meat well. "You're eating so well~ have more!" — I couldn't help saying that haha. And there's one combination at Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch you can't skip: minari (water celery) with the meat 🌿 A bite of meat with some minari added a fragrant, refreshing note that paired really well.

Bomb cheese steamed egg and the free kimchi jjigae

Just meat alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we ordered the bomb cheese steamed egg!

The steamed egg puffed up bubbling with cheese added, which made it great for sharing with the kids too.

With bonito flakes on top, the presentation is pretty striking right? Eating meat and then a spoonful of steamed egg is a whole other treat 😋 What I loved about Gim Sukseong Seongnae Branch was the complimentary service — domestic aged kimchi, minari, and even kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), all on the house!

The set price was already good, but the complimentary sides made it even more satisfying.

The kimchi jjigae especially was simmered so well I could finish a whole bowl of rice with it. My husband said it really suited his taste. I kept reaching for another spoonful of the broth between bites of meat haha.

The basic side dishes included seasoned crab, green onion kimchi, and myeong-i namul (mountain leek pickle)! The best pairings with meat ^^

On top of that, the dipping sauces were special too.

Cheese salt, ssamjang, and — my personal favorite — a sweet special sauce made with shiitake mushroom!

Having so many accompaniments made the meal even more delicious.
