Jumunjin dog-friendly café with rooftop ocean view: Dokkaebi Gelato

While traveling around Gangneung, I wanted to see the ocean and eat something delicious for dessert, so I headed to Dokkaebi Gelato (도깨비젤라또). It's located right in front of the sea, so you can enjoy gelato with a pretty ocean view at the same time. It's also dog-friendly, so it seemed like a great spot for people traveling around Gangneung with their pets. The yellow-and-white exterior stood out even from a distance, and there was a lovely rooftop space up top too :)

Where Dokkaebi Gelato is, and how the dog-friendly rules work

Dokkaebi Gelato is at 1605 Haean-ro, Jumunjin-eup, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea. Pets are welcome, and there's QR check-in and some usage guidelines posted in the store, so it's worth checking those when you visit.

What gelato flavors does Dokkaebi Gelato have?

Dokkaebi Gelato had a wide variety of flavors ready — dark chocolate, cookies and cream, cherry, strawberry, and more, so many that it was hard to decide what to pick. The gelato was arranged by color in the showcase, which made it look delicious just to look at, and each flavor had a handwritten description, which made it easy to choose something to my taste.

Kiosk ordering, and why the gelaffle needs a Naver reservation

Ordering is simple via kiosk. I ordered the Dokkaebi Gelaffle Set and the corn cream latte. Note that the Dokkaebi Gelaffle requires a Naver reservation, so it's best to book ahead before visiting.

Free scarf, flowers and selfie sticks to borrow

There were also props ready for those who love taking photos. You can borrow a red scarf and flowers for free, and selfie sticks are available too — it seemed like it'd be perfect for taking photos at the Dokkaebi breakwater!

Daenglatto, the gelato for dogs

If you visit with your pet, you can also get the daenglatto (댕라또). It's a menu item made for people who come with their dogs, so it seemed like it'd be great for anyone traveling with their pup.

The feel of each floor, first to third

First floor: showcase and window seats

The 1st floor of Dokkaebi Gelato is where you order and pick your gelato flavor — colorful interior and window seats looking out at the sea let you enjoy the ocean view while eating gelato.

Second floor: ocean-view seats and photo zone

Going up to the 2nd floor, there's a more relaxed space with seating to look out at the sea, and photo zones set up here and there.

Personally, I liked the 2nd floor better because the sea was more visible. Sitting by the window gave a wide-open view of the ocean scenery, and being higher up than the 1st floor made the ocean view feel even more refreshing.

Just watching the sea while eating gelato or sipping a drink really made it feel like a proper trip. There were good photo spots too, so it was great for leaving with some nice pictures.

Third floor: the rooftop

The 3rd floor is a rooftop space. There are outdoor seats and some charming little props, plus a wide-open view of the sea — it seemed like it would have an especially great atmosphere on a nice day.
