When traveling with kids, choosing the right stay matters so much. This time we visited Yeongjin-gil 51, a charming private villa with the Gangneung sea right in front of it.

Kids could run freely across a 200-pyeong natural lawn, and we soaked in a warm hinoki tub for some proper healing at this ocean-view pension. The 1st and 2nd floors are fully separate, so it's a great pick for anyone looking for a private house in Gangneung. Here's the review from our stay.

A 200-pyeong lawn and spacious outdoor area

The moment we walked in, the wide-open 200-pyeong yard caught our eye. It was safe for the kids to run around, and their faces lit up the second we arrived. 🥰

Yeongjin Beach is right in front, so the flow of going to play on the sand and coming back was seamless.

There's an outdoor washing spot in one corner of the yard, so we could rinse sand off our hands and feet before heading inside.

You can park comfortably right in the yard. Outside, there's a fire pit and BBQ grill set up for a moody fire-watching night. Watching the flames while feeling the night breeze seemed like it would be a really lovely way to unwind.

How the 1st floor is laid out

This place sleeps 6 as standard and up to 10, making it a solid family pension in Gangneung for two families traveling together. Overall it has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with the 1st and 2nd floors used independently. Stepping into the 1st floor, you're greeted by a warm, cozy interior filled with deep sunlight.

Sunlit interior of the 1st-floor living room

There's a bedroom with a queen bed, a room with a comfy sofa bed, a bathroom, and a living room and dining room that flow together. A clothing steamer and TV are also included.

A microwave, induction stove, large fridge, coffee machine, electric kettle, rice cooker, and plenty of dishware and cups were all fully stocked — nothing was lacking. It was also nice to see they had separate baby dishware.

2nd floor layout and the hinoki spa

Staircase leading up to the 2nd floor

Heading up the stairs to the 2nd floor, you'll find another independent living room and kitchen, 1 bedroom, a terrace, and the highlight of the house — the hinoki cypress tub space. There's a separate wine cellar, induction stove, fridge, and microwave, so even with two families staying, the paths don't overlap and everyone gets privacy.

When we visited, rain was forecast and it was a bit chilly for swimming, so the kids had a great time instead in the hinoki spa located in the 2nd-floor bathroom.

What to bring

💡A small tip for your visit — bottled water, toothpaste, and toothbrushes are not provided, so bring your own.

3rd-floor rooftop ocean view and nearby access

Head up to the 3rd-floor rooftop and the blue sea of Yeongjin Beach opens up in front of you. With outdoor tables and chairs set up, it's a great spot for a cup of tea in the cool sea breeze, and the best spot for a breathtaking sunrise in the morning. 🌅

There's a large supermarket and convenience stores near the villa. There are also plenty of nice-view cafés and good restaurants nearby, and Jumunjin Fish Market is a short drive away, so it was easy to bring back fresh sashimi to eat at the house.

After the stay

With the wide-open ocean view, the 200-pyeong yard, and a warm spa all in one place, the whole family came back having had proper rest. If you're planning a family trip or gathering in Gangneung, I'd recommend this place — it has both comfort and character.
