Smoke-free eel grill near Seonleung Station, 119,000 won set: Manmok

In short

Manmok is an eel-specialty Japanese restaurant on Seonleung-ro 82-gil near Seonleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, serving eel rice bowls at lunch and grilled eel with nabe hot pot at dinner. On a Sunday evening the writer ordered the 119,000 won set of one salt-grilled premium eel with eel nabe and added Koshihikari rice for 1,500 won, and the eel smell never clung to clothes or hair the way it does at charcoal grills. Manmok's eel nabe has a clear, clean broth with no fishy taste, enough to bring back an appetite lost to the heat.

A team dinner recommendation near Seonleung Station, Gangnam Recommending Seonleung's best eel rice bowl and grilled eel spot: Manmok Did you all have a good weekend~~?! I totally shook off the stress that had built up from shoots this weekend~

A photo capturing weekend outing vibes

What kind of eel restaurant is Manmok, near Seonleung Station?

📍Manmok I heard there was a great eel restaurant near Seonleung Station, so I went! It's famous for its eel rice bowl, but I found a hidden gem menu on this visit.

Manmok's menu board showing eel rice bowl and grilled eel

At lunch, the eel rice bowl is the star, but in the evening, grilled eel and nabe (hot pot) take over! I came in the evening, but a lot of people were still ordering the eel rice bowl even at dinner.

Why eel smoke doesn't cling to your clothes or hair at Manmok

The interior is totally clean-cut!! Usually at grilled eel places, the whole room fills with that charcoal-eel smell. Here, none of that at all. Super clean, which I liked even more! I'd actually gotten a perm that afternoon and couldn't wash my hair until the next day, haha. But no eel smell soaked in at all, which was so nice!

Seating at Manmok for group dinners and solo meals alike

They have large group seating like this, so it seems like a solid choice for a Seonleung team dinner, and the tables are separated by section, so you can eat privately. Since it's known for the eel rice bowl, quite a few people were dining solo, too!

This was our spot! Private as expected, and I liked it.

The decor was so pretty too ><

Side dishes and the complimentary chawanmushi

The side dishes come out pretty varied, too! Ginger and white kimchi, essential with grilled eel, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), pickled onion, muk-muchim (jelly salad), and mu-saengchae (radish salad), and as a complimentary extra, they gave us Japanese-style steamed egg custard, chawanmushi 🧡💙

Premium grilled eel and eel nabe set, 119,000 won

✔️Premium grilled eel + eel nabe set: ₩119,000 Since it had been so long since we last had eel, we went all out and ordered generously!! One whole salt-grilled premium eel plus the eel nabe set! The salt-grilled eel comes out already fully grilled, which is convenient, and there's no smell, so it's clean!

For the nabe, you can choose between hanwoo (Korean beef) nabe and eel nabe! The hanwoo nabe set is ₩113,000, the eel nabe set is ₩119,000 — only a ₩6,000 difference, so we tried the eel nabe!

It seemed like the eel nabe also had nearly a whole eel's worth in it?!? Eel Party Tonight~ Going to eat like crazy~~~ Ooh baby ooh baby~ 🐟

Koshihikari rice for 1,500 won

✔️Koshihikari rice: ₩1,500 We ordered rice to eat with the grilled eel. The rice was also a delicious variety, Koshihikari! Making a rice bowl with this can only be delicious, right?? Now I'm curious about the eel rice bowl too.

How do you all like to eat grilled eel best? I like it best topped with shredded ginger and pickled sushi ginger. Classics are classics forever.

Also wrapped a bite with myeongi namul~ When you grill eel over charcoal, the skin usually gets a bit charred, but here it wasn't burnt at all — grilled to a nice golden brown, which feels healthier too!!

The real star: Manmok's clear-broth eel nabe

Honestly, the real star of today's post is the eel nabe. (in bold, no joke) First of all, it's packed full of eel like that, and I couldn't imagine eel with a clear broth working together, so I wondered if it might taste fishy — but not at all.

The broth is genuinely clean, and the eel is really light and nutty-tasting! We both fell completely in love with the eel nabe!! Actually, we'd biked for about an hour to get there, and since it was still a bit hot, we were both overheated and didn't have much of an appetite, you know? But after eating the eel nabe, it was so good our appetite totally came back, haha.

Manmok's eel nabe packed with plump eel

The eel in the nabe was also super plump, so it felt like we stuffed ourselves full of eel. You can add extra noodles to the nabe too, but the portion was so big we couldn't add any… If you go to Manmok near Seonleung, make sure to order the eel nabe!! Totally recommend it >____<

Manmok, the eel restaurant near Seonleung! I'd recommend it as a solo-dining spot for the eel rice bowl, and if you're going for a team dinner, make sure to try the eel nabe. We played hard all the way into late Sunday, so why no Monday blues? Next week I only need to work three days!!!!!! Chuseok, please hurry up 🌝🌕
