Uijeongbu dakgangjeong fried to order: owner's sweet pick at Dalgom's

In short

Dalgom's is a dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy fried chicken) shop inside Uijeongbu Jeil Market in Gyeonggi. Three of us ordered 1.5 chickens split into three glazes — sweet, chili-garlic and garlic soy — and every piece was fried to order, crisp outside and juicy inside. The owner recommended the sweet glaze over the honey one, and its mix of sugar and savory sauce kept us reaching for more.

Why we went to Dalgom's for dakgangjeong at Uijeongbu Jeil Market

Exterior of Dalgom's dakgangjeong shop in Uijeongbu Jeil Market

I was at Uijeongbu Jeil Market and got a craving for good dakgangjeong (Korean-style fried chicken), so I headed to Dalgom's. I'm a fan of dakgangjeong in general, so whenever I'm at a market I tend to scope out the chicken shops. This one happens to be right inside Uijeongbu Jeil Market, so I got to browse the market too while I was at it. Bottom line up front: it was crispy and the sauce was well soaked in — a satisfying meal all around!

Fried to order at Dalgom's, with fresh oil every day

What I especially liked here is that the chicken is cooked fresh the moment you order — not reheated from a pre-made batch. On top of that, they use fresh oil every day, which gave me even more confidence in the food.

Dalgom's packaging is neat and cute haha. And they throw in pickled radish and shrimp chips on the side too ❤️

Three people, 1.5 chickens, three glazes in one box

There were three of us, so we ordered 1.5 chickens and picked three flavors: sweet, chili-garlic, and garlic soy. Getting to try several flavors at once was great — if there are three of you, splitting the order like this is a good way to go.

Sweet glaze: the flavor the owner recommends over honey

First up, the sweet glaze had that basic sweetness the name suggests, plus a nice savory depth from the sauce.

When we were ordering, the owner told us the sweet glaze has more savory depth than the honey glaze and recommended it — and once I tasted it, I understood why. It wasn't just plain sweet; the distinctive dakgangjeong sauce flavor came through nicely, and I kept reaching for more.

Chili-garlic glaze: the spiciest of the three at Dalgom's

The chili-garlic glaze was the spiciest of the three. The chili heat and garlic aroma came through together, so it was perfect to reach for whenever the sweeter flavors started to feel like a bit much. If you like spicy food, you'll probably enjoy this one too.

Garlic soy glaze: sweet-and-salty and my personal favorite

And the one I personally enjoyed most, the garlic soy glaze, had a clear sweet-and-salty soy sauce flavor. With the garlic aroma added on top, that sweet-salty combo was really appealing. It wasn't overly salty or sweet, and the sauce paired well with the chicken, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Above all, the dakgangjeong itself had that great crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture. The outside was fried crisp while the inside stayed moist and tender, so it got better the more I chewed. Even after being tossed in sauce, the crispy exterior held up fairly well, so I think anyone who likes dakgangjeong would be satisfied.

They also fry rice cakes together with the chicken, and that was a nice bonus too. The crispy fried rice cakes were evenly coated in sauce, chewy and sweet-salty, so I kept picking one out between bites of chicken!

Dalgom's parking and hours before you visit

Since the shop is inside Uijeongbu Jeil Market, it's a great dakgangjeong spot to stop by while browsing the market. If you're driving, you can use the Uijeongbu Jeil Market parking lot — just mention it at the counter and they'll give you a free 1-hour parking ticket, which took the sting out of the parking cost. It's also a good option for grabbing takeout dakgangjeong while wandering the market.

Hours are 10 AM to 9 PM, and they're closed every Monday, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

If you're visiting Uijeongbu Jeil Market, I'd recommend picking up dakgangjeong here for a snack or a meal. Made-to-order frying, fresh oil every day, a clean shop, and a friendly owner all made for a comfortable visit overall. If you're going with a group, rather than picking just one flavor, ordering 1.5 chickens split across a few flavors like we did is a great way to go haha.

From the crispy sweet glaze to the spicy chili-garlic and the sweet-salty garlic soy, Dalgom's let us taste a full range of dakgangjeong in Uijeongbu. If you're planning a trip to Uijeongbu Jeil Market, or just craving market-style fried chicken, it's worth a stop. Recommending Dalgom's, the dakgangjeong spot in Jeil Market!
