Aged kimchi jjamppong set at a Sindorim gastropub, Seoul: Mugeunji

In short

Korean Suljip Mugeunji is a Korean gastropub (suljip) on the Sindorim food street in Guro, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from Sindorim Station Exit 2. On a Wednesday at 6pm, booked through Naver Reservation, the order was the aged kimchi jjamppong and smile cheese potato pancake set with strawberry sherbet, beer, Saero soju and Jipyeong makgeolli, and Mugeunji was completely full by 7pm. The sharp, spicy jjamppong and the crisp-outside, gooey-inside cheese potato pancake made a sweet-and-savoury pairing that suits a Sindorim dinner date.

Today I'm sharing a place I visited on a weekday evening — a Sindorim dinner date with a friend after work, haha!

Tucked away in Sindorim's food street like a hidden gem, cozy and hyped for its high-quality drinking snacks, is 'Korean Suljip Mugeunji' (한국술집 무근지). I got a great opportunity to visit as a sponsored guest, and honestly, the anju (drinking snacks) were so good I ended up ordering round after round of drinks — here's my honest review!

My friend and I timed our reservation for exactly 6pm on a Wednesday evening!

Inside Mugeunji with windows open for an open-air feel

Since the weather was nice, they had the windows open, giving off an open-air pojangmacha vibe in one part of the space, and there was plenty of room further inside too. I grabbed a seat by the big window, haha.

By around 7pm, the place was packed with people despite it being a weekday!

Mugeunji's dining room packed with guests around 7pm

It's known as a popular bar in Sindorim, so it definitely had that vibe of a true local favorite that people already know and seek out.

What comes in the aged kimchi jjamppong and smile cheese potato pancake set?

Glancing at the menu, there was a really wide range, from soups to signature dishes!

The exact two dishes we wanted happened to be bundled together in a set, so we ordered without a second thought.

That's right — the 'aged kimchi jjamppong + smile cheese potato pancake' set!

Aged kimchi jjamppong: loaded with seafood, spicy and clean-tasting

A bowl of Mugeunji's signature aged kimchi jjamppong

First up was Mugeunji's signature dish, the aged kimchi jjamppong (spicy noodle soup)! Just looking at it, it seems seriously fiery, doesn't it?!

Spicy aged kimchi jjamppong broth

Taking a sip of the broth, it had that signature spicy kick of jjamppong, deeply infused with the refreshing tang of aged kimchi.

Blue crab and shrimp in the aged kimchi jjamppong

It's generously loaded with seafood like blue crab and shrimp, along with chewy noodles, crunchy bean sprouts, and meat — no ingredient spared.

It looked seriously appetizing and hearty!

Smile cheese potato pancake: crisp outside, molten cheese inside

Next was the smile cheese potato pancake, with a name as cute as it looks! True to its name, it comes out with a cute smiley face made of parsley — doesn't it kind of look like Elmo? Lol. So! Cute!

Cross-section of the potato pancake with melted mozzarella

The potato pancake is fried until the outside is almost crispy like it's deep-fried, while the inside spills out with mozzarella cheese, making it super moist.

A piece of cheese potato pancake dipped in honey sauce

Dip a big bite into the sweet honey sauce that comes with it, and... your whole mouth fills with an intense, savory cheese flavor that gives you that involuntary 'wow this is real' face 🤤

Full table with aged kimchi jjamppong and cheese potato pancake

Alternating between a refreshing, salty spoonful of jjamppong broth and a sweet, savory bite of cheese pancake, before we knew it, both dishes were completely finished, haha.

A truly perfect sweet-and-salty pairing!

Strawberry sherbet, the refreshing finish at Mugeunji

A bowl of Mugeunji's strawberry sherbet

This is the strawberry sherbet my strawberry-loving friend ordered. Fresh, cool, and sweet!

Served in such a cute little bowl, it gave off a nostalgic 'ice cream at grandma's house' vibe, haha. The charming spoon really added to that feeling, lol.

What to drink with the food: beer, Saero soju and Jipyeong makgeolli

Beer and soju set out alongside the anju

Great anju can't go without drinks! We ordered one of pretty much everything — beer, Saero, and makgeolli — without discriminating by type, haha!

Jipyeong makgeolli poured into a glass

Everything paired beautifully with the food, but since this is a Korean-style izakaya full of Korean flavors, the sweet Jipyeong makgeolli was the one that hit my personal taste the most!

Wrapping up the evening's drinks at Mugeunji

'Korean Suljip Mugeunji' made for the perfect fun dinner date with a friend in Sindorim! The combo of spicy aged kimchi jjamppong and crispy-outside, gooey-inside cheese potato pancake is honestly unforgettable. If you're looking for a bar near Sindorim with great vibes and guaranteed-quality anju, definitely give it a visit!
