Dangsan izakaya with soju tonic and mini gimbap: Snack Bar Atashi

In short

Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan Station Main Branch is an izakaya-style pub on Yangpyeong-ro near Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On an early weekday evening, the writer and her sister ordered an off-menu plate of raw shrimp, fried shrimp heads and mini gimbap (bite-sized seaweed rice rolls), with Ilpum Jinro 25 and tonic water plus two Kirin drafts. Bar seating makes Snack Bar Atashi easy for one or two people, and the quiet early-evening crowd left plenty of room to talk.

What kind of bar is Snack Bar Atashi near Dangsan Station?

Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan Station Main Branch is an izakaya on the first floor of 75 Yangpyeong-ro, near Dangsan Station. My sister and I met up on a whim after a while, and since it was a weekday evening we spent ages debating where to go. There was a place near Dangsan Station, close to Yeouido, that I'd been wanting to try — so off we went. And that place was Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan Station Main Branch!

If you're looking for a Dangsan Station izakaya, I genuinely want to recommend this place haha

What does the name Atashi mean?

Atashi apparently means 'me' in Japanese. On the first page of the menu was this passage:

We all live out our days playing someone's role, wherever we happen to be. Sometimes we have to set aside who we truly are for a while, but at Atashi, we hope you can meet your real self through good food, good drinks, and good company. May today's you be your most genuine self here at Atashi...

That line hit me somehow! It landed in my heart the moment I read it lol

Atmosphere and seating: is Snack Bar Atashi good for one or two people?

Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan Station Main Branch is a pub and izakaya spot near Dangsan Station with a really great vibe. It works whether you're stopping in for a first round or moving on for a second, so I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bar around Dangsan Station.

You can reserve through Naver — table reservations start from 3 people up to a max of 6. For 1 or 2 people, you can book the bar table, which turned out to be totally perfect for a date! I loved it.

Near the entrance there's a group table that seats about 4, and the rest of the tables are arranged in a circle around the center. Most of the people seated near us were couples on dates in twos and threes haha

The off-menu dishes we ordered at Snack Bar Atashi

My sister and I looked over the menu wanting something light but tasty to go with our drinks. That's when we got recommended some dishes that weren't even on the menu lol

  • Raw shrimp plate
  • Fried shrimp heads
  • Mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll)
  • Ilpum Jinro 25 (soju)
  • 2 tonic waters
  • 2 Kirin draft beers

We meant to keep the order simple, but once it was all on the table I wondered if 'simple' was really the right word lol. We clinked glasses, sipped away, and caught up on all the stuff we hadn't managed to say even though we talk on the phone every day — total chatting heaven. The izakaya-pub atmosphere was great, and since we came in the early evening it wasn't crowded at all. 🥳🎶💜

How the raw shrimp and fried shrimp heads tasted

The off-menu raw shrimp and fried shrimp heads were exactly the kind of dish that suits autumn. The raw shrimp came neatly peeled and made for a really good drinking snack.

It paired well with soju, tasted great dipped in chojang (vinegared chili paste), and had a clean, light flavor even eaten plain.

The fried shrimp heads were small enough to pop into your mouth in one bite, which was just right.

Kirin draft beer and Ilpum Jinro 25 with tonic

Kirin draft — need I say more! The carbonation was lively and it went down so smoothly, definitely my favorite draft beer.

My sister's team soju, so she happily worked through the Ilpum Jinro 25, mixing it with tonic water and lemon slices — watching her drink it that way, I thought this might actually be a pretty great combo haha
