Cheongju bulgogi restaurant for fall dates by Daecheong Dam: Ojangdong

In short

Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a hanwoo raw beef bulgogi and Hamhung-style cold noodle restaurant in Namil-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, on the drive route linking Cheongnamdae and Daecheong Dam. On a fall drive date here, two servings of raw hanwoo bulgogi made with a special soy sauce aged 240 hours and a skate bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) were mildly sweet rather than salty, so the seasoning never grew tiresome. For a filling Korean meal after a Cheongnamdae outing, Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a solid choice.

On a cool, breezy fall day off, I went out toward Daecheong Dam for a drive and some date-y vibes. That area is great for a slow scenic drive, and in fall it's even better with the autumn leaves added on top. This time I visited Ojangdong Heungnamjip as a Cheongnamdae restaurant pick, and it turned out to be a Cheongju spot where the beef bulgogi and naengmyeon (cold noodles) are especially good!

What does the 240-hour aged soy sauce hanwoo bulgogi taste like?

The raw hanwoo bulgogi at Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch, this Cheongju restaurant near Cheongnamdae, came out first. It's made with 1+ to 1++ grade hanwoo marinated in a special soy sauce aged for 240 hours. The seasoning was just right, and since it's raw beef bulgogi, the meat itself was so tender and delicious — it seemed like it'd be great to eat with kids too!

Which side dishes come with the bulgogi?

Salad, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), dongchimi (radish water kimchi), and shredded scallion salad all came out as side dishes to go with the meat — personally, I found the japchae and wood ear mushrooms especially delicious. A Cheongju restaurant where you can feel the care put into every single side dish ✨

Since the hanwoo bulgogi is boiled right at the table, the visual and smell factor was intense too, haha. With mushrooms, glass noodles, and vegetables all mixed together, it felt like a proper, healthy Korean meal. When you actually taste the bulgogi at Ojangdong Heungnamjip, this Cheongju restaurant near Cheongnamdae, the seasoning is well soaked into the meat but isn't salty — it has a mild, sweet flavor that never gets old. It's delicious eaten with rice or piled onto lettuce salad too, so I'd genuinely recommend it as a proper Cheongju bulgogi restaurant.

Skate bibim naengmyeon: how spicy and how chewy?

Hamhung-style cold noodles with dough made fresh in-house every day. Naengmyeon is a must when it comes to Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju! Being able to taste the menu of this long-running Ojangdong (Seoul) naengmyeon restaurant here in Cheongju is a big reason I'd recommend it to noodle lovers too.

Close-up of the skate bibim naengmyeon

The skate bibim naengmyeon in particular is made with dough kneaded fresh in-house every day, using 99% sweet potato starch, so the noodles had a nice chewy texture. The bibim naengmyeon was spicy yet savory, and it paired really well with the raw hanwoo bulgogi.

Planning a Cheongnamdae and Daecheong Dam drive date around this meal

If you're looking for a hearty meal after visiting Cheongnamdae, I'd recommend Ojangdong Heungnamjip as a Cheongju restaurant near Cheongnamdae!
