Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch: the cold noodle restaurant to know in Cheongju
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a naengmyeon (cold noodle) and hanwoo bulgogi restaurant at 721 Danjae-ro, Nam-il-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, on the way to Cheongnamdae. I honestly couldn't find a proper naengmyeon spot in Cheongju, but I tried Ojangdong Heungnamjip, which sits right on the road to Cheongnamdae — and found it! My Cheongju naengmyeon spot!
It was hard to find a good hoe naengmyeon (raw fish cold noodle) place, but this one really delivered. I'd passed by it on the way to Cheongnamdae or Daecheong Dam plenty of times, always thinking 'I should go sometime,' and this time I finally got the chance!

Parking and how big is Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch?
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a huge restaurant!!! Clean and pretty large in scale~ The sign is big too, so it's easy to spot from a distance~
There's a wide parking lot in front of the restaurant, so parking is completely stress-free! Even on weekends or during peak hours, parking is no problem!

There's a menu board posted at the front, so you can check what to eat before you even walk in~

You know a place is good when there are lots of celebrity autographs, right?????? There's more than just one or two here!!

Room for group gatherings, plus the self-serve broth bar
Once inside, Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch felt really spacious~ The table spacing was generous, so I could eat comfortably, and there were seats well set up for group parties!
It looked perfectly suited as a spot for a Cheongju group gathering or a Cheongju office dinner~ The overall interior had a warm, cozy vibe and looked very clean too~~

Also, there was a self-serve bar on one side where I could freely grab any side dishes I needed~~ I lost count of how many times I went back for the warm naengmyeon broth!!

What we ordered: hanwoo bulgogi for two and hoe-bibim naengmyeon
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch's signature menu items are apparently hanwoo raw bulgogi and hoe-bibim naengmyeon~ So we ordered hanwoo bulgogi for two along with the hoe-bibim naengmyeon~

Besides that, there's also hanwoo gukbap, mul naengmyeon (plain cold noodles), and bibim naengmyeon with meat in it~ There's even hanwoo suyuk (boiled beef slices)!

Best side dish: pickled wood ear mushrooms
The basic side dishes came out looking delicious~

The banchan (side dishes) came in a nice variety, all matched well with the bulgogi~ My top pick was the pickled wood ear mushrooms!!! The chewy texture was great and it was seriously so tasty, you know?!

How does the hanwoo bulgogi taste? Sweet-savory sauce and broth
The hanwoo bulgogi we ordered came out, and the staff member set it on the burner for us~! It was piled high with vivid, fresh hanwoo (Korean beef)!!
It sizzled away as it cooked~ Once it started bubbling, that delicious smell started drifting up, and I couldn't hold back — I went straight for the mushrooms first haha

One bite of the well-cooked bulgogi and it just melted in my mouth — this is exactly the flavor I was after~

The sauce wasn't overpowering — sweet with a savory, salty edge~

The glass noodles and mushrooms cooked together in the sauce soaked it all up beautifully, and they were really delicious too! The noodles had such a chewy texture that I kept reaching for more!

I even scooped up this broth like crazy!!
How much ganjaemi (raw skate) is in the hoe-bibim naengmyeon?
After eating for a while, the 'dessert' of sorts arrived — Ojangdong Heungnamjip's hoe-bibim naengmyeon~ Doesn't it look seriously delicious?????? As I mixed it, I noticed the ganjaemi (skate sashimi) pieces were quite large and there was plenty of it!

You can add extra sauce if you want, but I liked the original flavor better, so I didn't add any extra~

The noodles were chewy and there was plenty of flatfish sashimi too, so it was incredibly tasty!! The sauce was tangy, which paired really well with the hanwoo bulgogi we'd just eaten~

Wrapping the bulgogi and naengmyeon together in one bite was so good too!!

A lunch stop on a Cheongnamdae or Lake Daecheong day trip
Genuinely spotless — every plate cleared!! Ojangdong Heungnamjip is great for a family meal on your way to or from Cheongnamdae or Daecheongho~ and just as good for a date with a partner. The restaurant is also spacious enough to be perfect for family gatherings or a Cheongju group dinner~
