Cheongju gukbap restaurant near Cheongnamdae: Ojangdong Heungnamjip
In short
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a Korean restaurant in Nam-il-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, on the drive out to Cheongnamdae and Daecheongho Lake, serving soups built on beef bone broth. A month after a group dinner of hanwoo bulgogi here, the writer came back for the beef gukbap (rice in beef soup) and hoemuchim (spicy mixed raw fish), and found the broth deep and the meat generous. With a large parking lot, a 50-seat group room on the second floor and a self-serve bar of broth, baek-kimchi, kkakdugi and jeotgal, Ojangdong Heungnamjip suits group meals especially well.

Why go back to Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch after the hanwoo bulgogi?
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a Korean restaurant in Nam-il-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju — a great stop along the route to Cheongnamdae and Daecheongho Lake. I first discovered it a month ago at a gathering with friends!

The hanwoo bulgogi I had at that gathering was so satisfying that even though it's a bit of a drive from where I live, I happily came back to try more of the menu.

What does the beef gukbap broth taste like?
Last time it was the hanwoo bulgogi, but today I ordered warm beef gukbap and sweet-spicy hoemuchim. The restaurant says it makes its broth with nothing but beef leg bones and beef — and the owner's pride in that broth really shows!
Both the naengmyeon (cold noodle) broth and the gukbap broth are made with pure stock only, no artificial additives, they say. One spoonful of the gukbap and I truly understood why the owner was so proud.
The broth was deep and clean, the amount of meat inside was genuinely generous, and the texture was so tender that I could tell no ingredients were being spared.
Hoemuchim, baek-kimchi and what's on the self-serve bar
I ordered the hoemuchim alongside the gukbap, and it came with neatly julienned cucumber — an absolutely perfect match with the soup. Even writing this now, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
The seasoning was sweet and spicy in just the right amount, not overdone, and paired perfectly with the raw fish — I finished every last bite. The baek-kimchi served as a basic side was also clearly house-made rather than store-bought, so of course it was delicious.
Near the entrance there's a tidy self-serve bar where you can freely top up your broth, and help yourself to the tasty baek-kimchi, crunchy kkakdugi, and salty jeotgal side dish without any hesitation — very satisfying.

Parking and group seating at Ojangdong Heungnamjip
Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch has a fully equipped large parking lot, so you can drive over and eat with zero parking worries. The facilities overall are well set up, and honestly the parking lot was one of the things I liked most.
There's also a spacious 50-seat area on the second floor! If you're on a group trip to Cheongnamdae or Daecheongho Lake, or stopping by after a gathering or sightseeing, this place is genuinely ideal for a hearty group meal.

Verdict on this Cheongju restaurant near Daecheongho Lake 💯
Following the hanwoo bulgogi, today's beef gukbap and hoemuchim were both beyond expectations at Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch! The deep broth and thoughtfully prepared side dishes made the trip from afar feel completely worth it.
I didn't get to try the naengmyeon this time, so I've happily promised myself I'll come back with my daughter to try it next. If you're out near Cheongnamdae or Daecheongho Lake and looking for a hearty, deeply flavored real find, I highly recommend stopping by Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch!
