Daejeon breakfast spot: kimchi stew after a bread tour, Jeonju House
In short
Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, serving cast-iron pot galbi kimchi stew (15,000 won per person) and pork belly grilled on a cast-iron lid. After a Daejeon bread tour, a pot of Jeonju House galbi kimchi stew with an added rolled egg and pot rice settled the greasy feeling, with tender rib meat and a deep broth made without MSG. Jeonju House opens at 9am, so it works as a Daejeon breakfast stop as well as a late dinner.

Today I'm sharing an honest review of Jeonju House, a lunch spot I recommend for Korean food in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon. Right after a Daejeon bread tour, I needed something spicy to fix a greasy stomach — this kimchi stew place is famous among locals in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong.

The best part is that pot rice comes standard, so you get freshly cooked, piping-hot rice. Warm rice + kimchi stew + rolled egg + meat — it's a perfect combination.
Jeonju House hours and how to find it in Bongmyeong-dong
Jeonju House
09:00–22:20, last order 21:20. Located in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, and since it opens at 9am, I'd strongly recommend it as a breakfast spot in Daejeon too.

It's known for its galbi kimchi stew and cast-iron lid grilled pork belly.

Out front there are several large kimchi jars — the owner personally makes and ferments the kimchi, using only domestic ingredients.

Jeonju House prices and the house kimchi
Cast-iron lid grilled pork belly is ₩16,000 per person. The cast-iron galbi kimchi stew is ₩15,000 per person. Jeonju House says it uses only top-grade ingredients and homemade kimchi in its galbi kimchi stew, hot pot, and more. Maybe that's why the flavor feels less artificial and more like a healthy, country-grandma-style kimchi stew.

They serve water in hygienic disposable cups, which was a nice touch.
What side dishes come with the meal
The side dishes are chives, stir-fried kimchi, dongchimi (radish water kimchi), bean sprouts, and salad.

Personally, the kimchi was so good that this stir-fried kimchi was delicious too. It was great even just eaten plain with the pot rice.

If you have leftovers, you can pack them to go for an extra ₩1,000 for a container. Of course, we finished everything, so we had nothing to pack. (That's how good it was!)
Cast-iron pot galbi kimchi stew: the rib meat falls apart
The galbi kimchi stew came out in a pot-like bowl. It was my first time seeing kimchi stew made with rib meat, and the meat was so tender it melted in my mouth.

Another work of art: the pot rice. Getting to eat freshly cooked rice right then and there was great. Stone pot rice + kimchi stew + rolled egg — a Korean breakfast-or-lunch combo I'd strongly recommend.
We also added a rolled egg, and it was a genuinely thick one. It was a lot even for two people to finish.

The kimchi stew, simmered for a long time, only got more flavorful the longer it cooked — not sour kimchi but a deep, country-style kimchi stew feel, which I really loved. These days a lot of kimchi stew places drown things in MSG, but this one felt genuinely healthy while still tasting deep.

My boyfriend cut it up into bite-sized pieces for me, but since it's whole kimchi in there, cutting it yourself is part of the fun too.

You can see how hearty the meat pieces are — really tender. The longer it simmers, the more the broth soaks in and the tastier it gets.

Why Jeonju House kimchi stew works after a Daejeon bread tour
I tried the broth too, and it worked really well as a hangover cure. I hadn't even been drinking, but my stomach still felt cleared out. It's a refreshing kimchi stew spot that's great to eat right after a Daejeon bread tour. Strongly recommend this Korean restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong, for instantly settling a greasy stomach.

The rolled egg was a giant one too, and it looked really pretty.
Pot rice, finished with rice-crust tea
You scoop the rice out of the pot and eat it with the kimchi stew meat first,

and for round two, you can drink it like rice-crust tea (sungnyung). The flavor itself isn't heavy but is subtle and deep at the same time, so I think even parents or older folks would really love it.

It was great with the broth too, and I could taste that deep, aged-kimchi character. Strongly recommend the galbi kimchi stew.

The portion of meat is really generous too, so even two people sharing one order can eat until full. All the side dishes were delicious as well, so you can finish perfectly, right down to the last sip of rice-crust tea.

Jeonju House atmosphere and tips before you go
Group tables are available too, so I'd recommend it as a dining spot for family gatherings. The restaurant is spacious and the staff were friendly, which I appreciated.
- Definitely order the rolled egg as an extra — it's an essential pairing with kimchi stew
- You can add as much of the side dishes as you like from the self-serve bar

Looking back now, I want that broth again. A Daejeon kimchi stew restaurant where the flavor only deepens the longer it simmers, and a genuine Bongmyeong-dong favorite that even serves breakfast — I strongly recommend Jeonju House.
