Three-bowl weekend lunch at Daejeon kalguksu restaurant Yongja 1
In short
Yongja 1 Gwanpyeong Branch is a house-made noodle kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and dumpling restaurant in Gwanpyeong-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon. Over one weekend lunch we ordered three dishes — dumpling kalguksu soup at 10,000 won, bibim kalguksu at 10,000 won and steamed dumplings at 9,000 won — and found a clean broth, a tangy sweet-sour sauce and plump kimchi dumplings. Solo diners are welcome and 3 to 4 cars fit right in front, so Yongja 1 is an easy, good-value meal in Gwanpyeong-dong.

If you're looking for a good kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) spot in Gwanpyeong-dong, Daejeon, I'd recommend Yongja 1. It's a noodle and dumpling specialist that makes its own noodles in-house, so it's well known among locals as a kalguksu place. It's easy to eat solo here too, and pretty good value, so let me share my review.

Where is Yongja 1 Gwanpyeong Branch, and is there parking?

Yongja 1 Gwanpyeong Branch is close to the Hyundai Outlet Daejeon and within a 10-minute walk of Lotte Mart, so it's great for combining a meal with shopping or groceries. There are also plenty of cafés nearby, so it's perfect for lunch or dinner. There's parking for 3-4 cars right in front of the restaurant. Parking can be tricky in Gwanpyeong-dong, so being able to park right out front was really nice!

Is Yongja 1 comfortable for eating alone?

The interior of Yongja 1 Gwanpyeong Branch is cozy and clean. There are tables for 2 to 6 people, so it works well whether you're eating solo or coming with a group. With a lot of offices nearby, it seems like a great lunch spot for office workers. I visited on a weekend and customers kept coming in steadily — it's clearly popular.

Menu, prices and side dishes at Yongja 1

This time I ordered dumpling kalguksu soup for ₩10,000, bibim kalguksu for ₩10,000, and steamed dumplings for ₩9,000. The menu is made up of kalguksu, dumplings, and dumpling soup, and the prices are quite reasonable. Besides the regular kalguksu, there's a bibim (mixed/spicy) version too, so you can pick according to your taste. Any one bowl is filling enough on its own!

The basic side dishes are kimchi and pickled onion. The kimchi had a moderate spicy kick that paired really well with the kalguksu. The pickled onion had a refreshing, crunchy texture that perked up my appetite between bites! If you need more, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.

How does the dumpling kalguksu soup taste?

I started with the dumpling kalguksu soup, and it comes with kimchi dumplings inside! The broth was impressively rich yet clean — not harsh at all, just a deep, clear flavor that was delicious. The more I ate, the warmer my stomach felt.
