Mangwon sushi restaurant for solo lunch: Beotkkot Sushi

In short

Beotkkot Sushi Mangwon is a sushi restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, on the way to Mangwon Market. I ordered the 15-piece Daesikga Sushi set for lunch after a workout and enjoyed its varied selection in the quiet dining room. Verdict: a satisfying stop for a generous sushi meal with a Mangwon Market visit.

I am someone who consistently eats sushi, one of my absolute favorite foods. I wanted sushi again this time, so after working out near Mangwon Station, I looked around for somewhere that seemed good for a solo lunch and found this place@@ It was Beotkkot Sushi Mangwon.

Come out of Exit 2 at Mangwon Station and head toward Mangwon Market; duck into a side street midway and you will find it in no time. It is about a three-minute walk, so the access was really good. Maybe because it gets lots of delivery orders, the dining room was actually fairly quiet, making it nice to focus on a meal slowly by myself.

This time, true to my big-eater sushi self o.o, I chose the 15-piece Daesikga Sushi set.

Slip into a side street from Mangwon Station. Walk just a little from Exit 2 toward Mangwon Market and you will spot Beotkkot Sushi in a street on the right. It was not far from the station, so it was easy to find, and it is in a great spot to stop by before or after browsing Mangwon Market, yep.

There are several branches, but this was my first visit to the Mangwon branch. It was in the building where a café I used to go to was locatedㅠ

Up to the second floor, go go~~ Let's head in. The space inside was cuter and cozier than I expected. It mainly had tables for four, but there was plenty of room to sit even when visiting alone.

I visited at lunchtime, so delivery orders kept coming in. ^^,,,!!

What especially caught my eye was the soft lighting that brought cherry blossoms to mind. Since the name is Beotkkot Sushi—beotkkot means cherry blossom—it felt cute that even details like this matched the name, haha.

There was also a neatly displayed country-of-origin notice on one side, plus a follow event and a receipt-review event. It may be helpful to keep those in mind if you visit.

Beotkkot Sushi has quite a varied menu, from sushi and sashimi to rice bowls, rolls, fried dishes, and udon! There is a weekday lunch menu too, so it looks like a good value at lunchtime, right?

There were lots of options, from sushi to soy-marinated salmon rice bowls, haha. I went for the big-eater ^0^ 15-piece set, go go.

What comes with the 15-piece Daesikga Sushi set

Cherry blossom-inspired tableware at Beotkkot Sushi

There were plates on one side too, haha—lots of cherry-blossom vibes. It was prepared quickly and came right out; ta-da~ It really was 15 pieces, hoho.

As expected of a big-eater sushi set, the whole plate was full, which was filling just to look at o.o From left to right, it included three pieces of live fish, two swordfish, three salmon, one boiled shrimp, one egg, one fried tofu pouch, one boiled octopus, one giant squid, one garlic, and one beef sushi. I liked that the selection was quite varied, so I could enjoy many different flavors on one plate.

I liked that the slices of fish were bigger than I expected.

Sometimes when eating sushi, the seasoning is so strong that it overwhelms the flavors of the other pieces, but even the seasoned sushi here was not overly salty!

There was also a cute little guide on how to eat sushi

  • They say you usually start with lightly seasoned sushi, then gradually move on to sushi with more seasoning.
  • For fish sushi with a long tail, hold onto the tail firmly!
  • When dipping in soy sauce, apparently you dip the fish, not the rice!
  • It is also good to use ginger like a brush: moisten it with soy sauce and brush it onto the sushi.

I tried eating it that way too. Yum. But I already like using ginger as a brush, haha, so I lightly dipped the ginger in soy sauce and brushed it over the sushi. It was nice because I could control how much soy sauce I used this way.

Pair it with a visit to Mangwon Market

A quiet sushi restaurant in Mangwon-dong for solo dining!! There were quite a few delivery orders when I visited, but conversely, there were not many people in the dining room, so it was quiet haha. That made it feel much less intimidating to go eat sushi alone, and I liked being able to eat slowly and focus on my meal. Since it is also in a good location to combine with browsing Mangwon Market, it would be nice to look around the market after sushi too.

With easy access from Mangwon Station and a quiet setting that is great for solo dining, Beotkkot Sushi Mangwon is a good place to stop when you want a sushi meal alongside a visit to Mangwon Market.
