A convenient stop alongside Mangwon Market
While looking for somewhere to eat near Mangwon Market, I went to Beotkkot Sushi Mangwon (벚꽃스시 망원점) for sushi!!! 🍣 It sits right at the entrance to the market, so it looked like a nice place to stop by while exploring Mangwon Market. After trying it myself, the sushi made with live fish especially stood out among the many options 🤎
It was easy to find: come out of Mangwon Station Exit 2 and walk toward the market 🚶🏻♀️ I don't think it even took 10 minutes! Since it is so close to Mangwon Market, it also seemed easy to pair with other food and sights nearby 𓂃𓈒𓏸 Especially if you have plans in Mangwon-dong, I think a market stroll followed by a meal would make a lovely itinerary 💭

A spacious, bright interior and open kitchen
Once inside, the restaurant was more spacious and brighter than I expected ☀️ It did not feel cramped, and it was comfortable to chat with the person I came with over a meal. I thought it would suit not only eating alone, but also meeting friends or having a casual get-together 👭🏻💬 It also has an open kitchen, so you can see food being prepared 👀 Personally, I liked that the cooking area was visible rather than hidden away—it felt a little more hygienic.

The live fish sushi I tried
Of everything I tried, the sushi made with live fish was the most delicious!!! 🍣✨ The fish was chewy yet soft, making every piece lovely in texture, and it was fun to work through the lighter varieties one by one. If you particularly like live fish sushi, this is the part of the menu to keep an eye on 🐟💕

The sushi rice was not bland either; it had a light savory seasoning that went well with the fish. For me, overly seasoned rice can overwhelm the flavor of the fish in sushi, but here it was not distracting and was easy to enjoy ᵕ̈
Miso soup and guidance on eating sushi
Warm miso soup came with the sushi, which was nice to enjoy in between bites 🍲 There was also a guide on the table for enjoying sushi. It recommended starting with the lighter varieties in the order of white fish → red fish → grilled sushi 📝 It also advised dipping the fish, rather than the rice, into soy sauce, so first-time visitors may want to take note!

My first salmon-and-shrimp marinated rice bowl
This was my first time trying soy-marinated salmon and shrimp, and they were much more delicious than I expected, so memorable ᵕ̈ Both had a sweet, chewy texture that went so well with rice. I especially liked the chewiness of the salmon and shrimp aged in the marinade, and even though it was a new dish to me, I enjoyed it so much!
The surprisingly good onion
And I also liked the onion on top of the rice bowl!!! 🧅🤍 I thought it might be spicy because it was raw onion, but it was not as spicy as expected and went nicely with the bowl. 🌿
Waiting and things to know before visiting
My visit was sponsored, and I was seated right away with no wait that day 🙌🏻 Still, visitors may crowd in during mealtimes, so it may be wise to allow extra time. Mangwon Market itself tends to be busy on weekends and around mealtimes, so if you are planning to explore the market too, heading out a little early is another option 🛍️

- About a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station Exit 2
- At the entrance to Mangwon Market, making it easy to visit with the market

- Weekday lunch specials are listed, so checking before visiting is recommended
