I had some business in Sejong and stopped by with a junior colleague for a good lunch — Bapkkot Hansang, a spot known as a local favorite in Sejong.

Ordering the Bapkkot Special for two

We visited Bapkkot Hansang a bit early for lunch that day.

After walking in and thinking about what to order for a moment, we went with the ✅ Bapkkot Special course for two, the restaurant's signature dish.

Table as the Bapkkot Special course for two begins

🎵 They said the Bapkkot Special is the restaurant's course menu, a good choice when you want to treat someone properly, like for a meal with important people or a significant gathering.

Not long after ordering, dishes began arriving one by one. The appetizer caught my eye first.

Appetizer of buckwheat noodles in white cream

Taking a slurpy bite of the buckwheat noodles in white cream, the soft cream and the chewy texture of the noodles worked together to really wake up the appetite.

First spread — from tofu kimchi to royal court tteokbokki

After that, the table gradually filled up with more food.

Royal court tteokbokki and pajeon-style pancake

From tofu kimchi to a salad with kiwi sauce, deliciously dressed chicory, a plate of boiled pork slices, a japchae-style dish with buckwheat noodles, royal court tteokbokki (rice cakes stir-fried in a court-style sauce), and a jeon (savory pancake) styled like pajeon — a generous spread of varied Korean dishes was laid out.

I liked that instead of eating just one dish the whole time, you could taste a little of many different things.

Course plates gradually being emptied

As my colleague and I tasted each dish and chatted, the plates gradually emptied out.

Tteokgalbi and doenjang rice bibimbap — the second spread

But it wasn't over yet. 🎶 After we'd eaten for a while, the main course and rice dishes arrived in earnest.🥳👏👏👏

Doenjang jjigae with tofu and vegetables, plus namul side dishes

Out came soft, melt-in-your-mouth tteokgalbi (grilled beef patties), along with ganduenjang (thick soybean paste dip) that's great mixed into rice.

Alongside that was a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) packed with tofu and vegetables, plus an assortment of banchan — seasoned namul (vegetable side dishes), cucumber salad, and stir-fried nuts.

For anyone who loves Korean food, this spread would make your mouth water just looking at it. 🎶 Piling the various namul on top of rice and mixing in the ganduenjang was especially delicious.

Korean food really does taste best eaten this way, with rice and lots of side dishes together. 🥰 My colleague, who's a self-described "rice lover," put rice and one of each namul into a big bowl, added the ganduenjang, and mixed it all up enthusiastically.

And then she polished off the whole bowl.

I was hungry too, so I tasted a bit of everything and really enjoyed the meal. Wow~~🥳🎶🧡

With such a wide variety of dishes and generous portions, I wondered at first if we'd be able to finish it all, but it was so good I kept reaching for more. In the end, we finished lunch completely full.👏👏👏

Final thoughts — a meal before or after a stroll

Being close to Sejong Lake Park, Bapkkot Hansang seemed like a solid choice for anyone looking for a place to eat after a walk around the lake. It's also near Sejong Arboretum, so it's worth checking out if you're planning a Korean meal before or after visiting the arboretum.

Personally, I think it's a place worth visiting if you're searching for ✅ restaurants near Sejong Lake Park or ✅ restaurants near Sejong Arboretum and want a clean, generous Korean set meal.

And right as lunchtime hit, customers started streaming in one after another, and before long every table in the place was full.

🎵 Whether it's for treating someone to a meal, a family gathering, or a visit with a larger group, it seems best to book ahead.

Bapkkot Hansang, which I visited with a colleague after finishing up some business in Sejong, gave us a satisfying lunch with a wide range of Korean dishes and a generous Bapkkot Special course.🫶🥳🥰🩷
