I visited Bomseol Main Branch (봄설 본점) while looking for a good Korean restaurant near Dongtan. For ₩13,000, the table comes packed with everything from dolsotbap (hot-stone-pot rice) to kodari-jorim (braised semi-dried pollock), doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew), and all kinds of side dishes.

Bomseol Main Branch was bigger than expected

This time, I visited Bomseol Main Branch. Once I got there, the building was much bigger than I expected. Best of all, it is a standalone building with a pretty spacious parking lot, so I drove there without having to worry much about parking.

The restaurant spans several floors, so it looked like a nice place for a family meal. And if you make a group reservation, it seems you can use an entire floor, too! For a special day, go book it~
Make your own barley rice

You can bring over barley rice yourself and add whichever ingredients you want, so it is worth trying if you like bibimbap (mixed rice). Everyone can choose their own favorites, which was handy even when people in the group had different tastes! I had already eaten quite a bit of the hot-stone-pot rice and side dishes that day, so I only tried a little barley rice, but the side dishes were so good that it still went down even though I was full.
Ordering the weekday Deulbap Set Meal

There were several menu options, but I ordered the Deulbap Set Meal that day. It is a ₩13,000 menu available only on weekdays. Rather than coming out dish by dish, everything arrives at once, and the table fills up quickly with hot-stone-pot rice, soybean-paste stew, braised pollock, and assorted side dishes. It is a real value menu that does not compromise on flavor!
The fun of trying every side dish

At Korean restaurants, the main dish matters, of course, but I unexpectedly pay a lot of attention to the side dishes, too. Some places have a tasty main but treat the side dishes as mere filler; here, I kept reaching for them because each one was better than expected. The doraji-muchim (seasoned balloon-flower root) and fried squid were especially delicious! The doraji-muchim had its distinctive aroma, yet the seasoning blended in beautifully. Its crisp bite made me keep taking little bits of it after every spoonful of rice.
Put the braised pollock over rice

And I cannot leave out the braised pollock, the main dish! The seasoning had soaked nicely into the fish, and its pleasantly chewy flesh tasted even better with rice than on its own~ When I eat braised pollock, I love lightly coating the rice with the sauce. It is seriously so good. The sauce is the real kick!
Hearty soybean-paste stew on the side

A Korean table feels a little incomplete without soybean-paste stew, right? The Deulbap Set Meal came with it, too. Since the braised pollock and side dishes were fairly seasoned, taking a spoonful of stew here and there worked really well. It was also nice with a little of the broth spooned over the rice.
Cinnamon punch and puffed corn after the meal

A glass of sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) was a lovely way to freshen my mouth after such a filling Korean meal. And with gangnaengi (puffed corn) beside it, I kept reaching for it for no reason~ Bomseol also sells puffed corn and old-fashioned Korean snacks, so it was fun to browse after the meal. If you like old-fashioned snacks, I do not think it would be easy to simply walk past! Personally, I love a full Korean spread that offers variety beyond the main dish, and Bomseol was fun because there was so much to try~ The seasoned pollock and flesh went so well over warm hot-stone-pot rice, and adding soybean-paste stew made it completely satisfying! With its spacious parking lot and large restaurant space, this is somewhere I would like to visit again!
