Bar-style seating at Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch

Bar seating facing the kitchen, the shop's atmosphere

Walking into Mibundang, you feel a slightly different vibe from a typical pho shop. The most noticeable thing is the long bar-style seating.

The layout lets you eat while facing the kitchen, so it's not awkward even solo, and overall the atmosphere was quiet and calm.

The shop is also kept neat and tidy, so it felt comfortable throughout the meal. It gave off more of a 'quietly eat good pho and leave' feeling than a place for loud, long conversations. So it seems like a good fit for solo dining or a simple lunch near Dongtan Station.

Mibundang Brisket Pho

First up, the brisket pho I ordered! A big bowl generously filled with noodles, bean sprouts, and green onion, topped with brisket. Just looking at it felt warm and filling.

I tasted the broth first, and I liked how rich yet clean it was.

The signature pho aroma wasn't too strong, so it wasn't overwhelming, and it had a light yet deep flavor that kept me spooning up more broth.

The brisket was also fairly soft, so it went well with the noodles.

Piling brisket on top of the noodles and picking up bean sprouts along with it made it even tastier, with the soft texture of the meat plus the crunch of the sprouts.

Personally, I think the broth is the most important part of pho, and Mibundang's brisket pho hit the mark with its combo of clean broth + soft brisket + crunchy bean sprouts.

What's in the assorted fried platter?

Mibundang Assorted Fried Platter

And the thing I really wanted to try on this visit — the assorted fried platter! This menu lets you enjoy several of Mibundang's side dishes at once.

As of now, the lineup includes

  • Sweet potato spring roll
  • Scallop spring roll
  • Shrimp potato roll
  • Wedding shumai
  • Buffalo wings

If you order the side dishes one by one, the price adds up per item, so if you want to try a little of several things, ordering the assorted platter is much better.

From crispy fried items to shrimp-filled ones and shumai, there was a nice variety to try one by one. Of everything I ate that day, the combo of brisket pho + assorted fried platter was pretty satisfying.

Brisket pho has a clean, light broth that works well as the main dish, and the assorted platter lets you try a variety of sides, so ordering them together made a great combo. If two of you visit, it might be nice to order two pho and one assorted platter to share the sides. If it's your first time at Mibundang and you're not sure which side dish to pick, I'd recommend starting with the assorted platter.

Especially since I was eating something warm and light like pho, adding crispy sides in between changed up the texture and made it even more delicious. I'd recommend the assorted platter for anyone who feels like pho alone isn't quite enough, or who wants to try a variety of sides.
