Rahongbang Malatang in Cheoncheon-dong, Suwon: location and parking

Rahongbang Malatang, a popular spot in Cheoncheon-dong, is inside Sehwa Plaza across from Lotte Mart. It is close to Hwaseo Station—about a three-minute drive from Dongnam Health University and within 10 minutes of Starfield. Parking is available in the building, though parking fees are not covered; street parking is available on weekdays from 11 AM to 2 PM, so keep that in mind!
A clean, well-kept dining room

The dining room was clean and orderly, making it a comfortable place for everyone from students to families. There were sofa tables, two-person tables, and four-person tables, and even when I visited late in the evening, customers kept coming in. Its 4.9 delivery rating made me even more excited.

The open kitchen is fully visible, and even though they work with high heat, I could see that both the floor and hood were kept spotless. That made the food feel even more trustworthy.

The menu includes single-serving guobaorou (sweet-and-sour fried pork) and lemon cream shrimp, so solo diners can come in and order a few things without feeling burdened. It is packed with crowd-pleasing Chinese dishes such as guobaorou, shrimp egg fried rice, and lemon cream shrimp.

The spice levels are divided in detail, and today I chose level 1.5, said to fall between Shin Ramyun and Buldak in heat. In short, it suited my taste perfectly.

You pay at the kiosk: place the ingredients on the scale, and the price appears according to whether you choose soup or mala xiang guo. I thought it was so interesting that even malatang is calculated self-service here.
Malatang ingredients still fully stocked late at night

What surprised me even more was the variety of ingredients. Usually, when you visit late, the displays are not stocked this densely, but every type was filled right up without anything missing.

Big-volume ingredients such as mung bean sprouts, napa cabbage, and Chinese glass noodles are placed on the bottom, alongside tofu, vegetables, meat, and noodles. They even had the panda-shaped bunmoja noodles that are so popular these days.
At other malatang places, meat and skewers are always charged per piece, right? What makes Rahongbang Malatang in Cheoncheon-dong such good value is that everything is charged only by weight. Skewers can really add up elsewhere, but here you can choose as much as you want at a lower price.

The self-service corner has tableware, Chinese vinegar, danmuji (yellow pickled radish), peanut sauce, and hair ties. If you love dipping things in peanut sauce, you can take as much as you like.
Level 1.5 malatang with deeply rich bone broth

Our malatang arrived in under five minutes. We had filled it generously with ingredients for two people, and I wondered, “How are we ever going to finish this?” But when I tasted the broth first, the savory depth of the slowly simmered beef bone broth gave it such a solid foundation.

The numbing Sichuan pepper and chili oil came together so brightly, leaving a pleasantly tingly finish in my mouth. The vegetables stayed crisp, while the Chinese glass noodles and bunmoja did not go mushy and kept their satisfyingly chewy, bouncy texture. It was so delicious that I almost wanted to call it my malatang of a lifetime.

Mini guobaorou to alternate with the malatang
Another great discovery was the mini guobaorou, with sauce coating the surface of the batter. The crispy glutinous-rice coating and sweet-tangy sauce worked beautifully together; the outside shattered like a snack, while the thinly sliced meat inside was tender and moist.

As I ping-ponged between the guobaorou and that tingly malatang, the bowl I had thought was huge at first disappeared in no timeㅠㅠ Next time, I need to pile in even more!
Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch has clean, varied ingredients and good-value pricing because everything is charged by weight. I need to come back regularly to raise my blood malatang level ❤️
