We were going to take home galbi kimchi stew too, but it was sold out so we couldn't! It really felt like the kind of popular spot people keep coming back to~

Pork belly and self-serve side dishes

The main dishes are galbi kimchi hot pot, kimchi stew, fresh pork belly, and thin-sliced pork belly, haha. Stone-pot rice is included with the kimchi hot pot dishes, which makes for such a delicious meal~ You can also help yourself to as many extra side dishes as you like.

Our two portions of pork belly arrived. Such appetizing-looking pork belly! Maybe because I was hungry, I did wonder whether the portion might feel a little small, haha.

But above all, we ordered pork belly and the side dishes were incredibly generous?! Chung-sil Hoegwan definitely made up for any worries about the portion.

Squid mulhoe and braised pollock

The squid mulhoe (chilled raw-fish soup), especially, had an amazing sweet-and-spicy flavor. The squid, vegetables, and refreshingly icy sauce went so well together!

And the braised pollock..!! This was so delicious that I almost wanted to order another one~ It was chewy yet crisp, and the seasoning was so good that even just rice and braised pollock would make a perfect match~

Haha, I diligently put the meat on the grill.

Pork belly placed on the grill

It wasn't too thick, so it was easy to grill and cut up for my child—and my child ate it really well, which was great!!

Mushrooms, garlic, onion, and aged kimchi all went onto the grill too. Grill them with the pork belly and eat them together—it is a fantastic combination~ haha.

Finishing with stone-pot rice and scorched rice

And then, the highlight: stone-pot rice!! It takes a little while after ordering, so I recommend ordering it in advance, haha. The rice in the stone pot was so delightfully sticky~ And to finish, you have to eat the nurungji (scorched rice crust), right?!

My child cleared the stone-pot rice and the scorched rice too, haha. I think it would also be nice to come for lunch and have kimchi stew with stone-pot rice, haha.

Starting with the pork belly, then squid mulhoe, crispy braised pollock, salad, and all those generous side dishes! Chung-sil Hoegwan in Sejong stays true to the basics of making all this delicious food, haha.

It is a great restaurant that makes me look forward to every visit!! Next time, I am going to try the galbi kimchi stew :-) I recommend it for family gatherings with children or the whole family, as well as group work dinners~~
