Jeju Dongmun Market snack shop: yuzu gwajul 12-pack, nut oranda bulk

In short

Cheongchuni Oranda is a handmade oranda (chewy puffed-rice snack) and gwajul (fried rice cracker) shop right in front of Gates 2 and 9 of Dongmun Market in Jeju. After sampling the flavors on the tasting table, we packed a yuzu gwajul 12-pack and a bulk bag of nut-flavored oranda, and the yuzu gwajul was the one we kept reaching for — not too sweet, with a gentle citrus aroma. Because the oranda stays chewy instead of rock-hard, Cheongchuni Oranda is an easy pick for a snack for parents or a gift to bring home from Jeju.

I found some oranda at Jeju Dongmun Market that wasn't hard at all — it was actually chewy! Oranda can sometimes disappoint you with a texture so hard it hurts your jaw, but this place had a soft, chewy bite that was really tasty. They even have gift packaging, so it's great as a Jeju travel souvenir or a simple gift, so let me introduce it!!!

As a donut lover, the donut oranda caught my eye first! The colorful look alone made me want to pick one of each. The flavors were also really varied!

Four oranda flavors: yuzu, garlic, gamtae and nut

Next up, oranda~ Every oranda I'd eaten before was always so hard my jaw would ache by the end. But Cheongchuni Oranda's oranda isn't hard at all — it's chewy and soft, which I loved, and it comes in 4 flavors!

  • 🌿 Yuzu
  • 🧄 Garlic
  • 🌊 Gamtae (seaweed)
  • 🥜 Nuts

It's a combination that feels familiar yet isn't common, so it's fun trying each one!

They also sell a package with all 4 flavors nicely wrapped as a gift! The packaging was so cute, and each piece is individually wrapped, so it seems easy to share too. If you're looking for a gift to bring back while traveling Jeju, this seems perfect to grab without any worry~

The best of the lot: yuzu gwajul

And the one I liked best — yuzu gwajul~ It's made with nutty white rice, brown rice, and buckwheat, so the more you chew, the nuttier it tastes, and the yuzu scent spreads subtly and fragrantly. It's not too sweet, and the refreshing yuzu aroma on top made this my favorite by far𓂃。˚

So I packed home a yuzu gwajul 12-pack and a bulk pack of nut-flavor oranda~ I got plenty of the yuzu gwajul since it was my favorite, and picked the nutty nut flavor for the oranda ᰔᩚ

How it tasted back home

I tried the yuzu gwajul as soon as I got home~ Sure enough, it wasn't too sweet and the yuzu scent spread fragrantly, so tasty!!! The crunchy, nutty texture plus the refreshing yuzu aroma kept me reaching for more

The nut-flavor oranda was absolutely packed with nuts inside, so the more you chewed the nuttier it got~ The chewy texture that's typical of oranda combined with the nutty flavor made this one delicious too. My mom and dad especially loved it, so I thought it'd make a perfect family snack!
