Beef offal grill in Namyangju: Chodaechang Byeollae Branch

What was the atmosphere like at Chodaechang Byeollae Branch?

My husband and I went to Chodaechang Byeollae Branch (초대창 별내점) for beef offal. We tend to try new beef-offal places when we find them in Byeollae, and this was our first visit here.

The restaurant was neat. I heard that it had been open for about a month at the time of my visit.

What should you order if you do not want heart?

Since we do not particularly like heart, we chose Mixed Grill Set B, which does not include it. It was ₩57,000 at the time of my visit, and we added Korean beef gopchang grill separately for ₩21,000.

The side dishes and sauces were set out neatly, and charcoal was brought to the table. The grilled items we ordered felt larger in person than they looked in the photos.

Do staff grill the food for you?

A staff member grilled everything for us. We did not have to focus much on grilling, so my husband and I could eat comfortably while talking.

How did the Korean beef gopchang, daechang, makchang, and teukyang differ?

How was the extra Korean beef gopchang?

The cut I enjoyed most was the Korean beef gopchang. It tasted clean, light, and nutty, so I was glad we had added it separately.

Which sauce went well with the daechang?

The daechang (beef large intestine) was richly fatty and tender. It paired well with the recommended lemon and soy sauce, and it was one of the cuts I kept thinking about afterward.

Did the makchang and teukyang suit my taste?

The makchang (beef abomasum) was chewy. It was recommended with makjang sauce and soybean powder, but I thought it also went well with other sauces. It is usually a cut I like, but the Korean beef gopchang and daechang stood out more that day.

The teukyang (beef tripe) was thick and felt almost like eating meat. Its chewy, substantial texture suited my taste less, but it was my husband's favorite cut. It went well with the gim wasabi (seaweed with wasabi) and makjang sauce served with it.

How were the doenjang sulbap and kimchi noodle soup with the grill?

Beef offal can become rich as you eat, so I tend to order side dishes as well. That day, we had spicy doenjang sulbap (rice in soybean-paste broth) and kimchi noodle soup.

The doenjang sulbap had a deep broth with large pieces of tofu and vegetables. The rice had absorbed the soybean-paste broth, which went well with the gopchang and made for a filling meal.

The kimchi noodle soup was tangy and savory. It was good to have between bites of gopchang, daechang, and makchang.

What dessert came after the meal?

After the meal, we were given an Excellent ice cream bar for dessert. I was happy to see the blue-and-yellow packaging again after a long time. There were small, amusing touches around the restaurant, and the restroom was clean too, so the meal ended on a pleasant note.

Which cuts would I want to eat again?

Overall, I did not notice any unpleasant odor, and each cut had a distinct flavor and texture. I especially wanted to eat the Korean beef gopchang and daechang again. My husband liked the teukyang most, while I preferred other cuts, so the assortment was good for sharing and finding what each person likes.

Can you park if you drive?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 12-18 Byeollae 5-ro 5beon-gil, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. There is space for about five cars in front, though it may be full depending on when you visit, so keep that in mind if you are driving.
