Musil-dong galbi-jjim restaurant in Wonju: spice level 1, Yukdaejang

Found this Wonju gem while running errands in town with my husband! We both love braised short ribs, so there was zero hesitation choosing the menu. Here's our review of a delicious meal at Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom.

Spicy braised short ribs where you can pick your spice level

Parking and location: 2nd floor near Wonju City Hall

Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom is on the 2nd floor at 8 Roanoke-ro, Wonju, and the parking lot is huge with plenty of spots. Since it's a famous yukgaejang spot near Wonju City Hall, a lot of people drive in — and normally climbing to the 2nd floor would be a hassle, but having parking right up there made it super convenient.

Being open 24 hours is a huge perk — you can drop by whenever the craving hits.

There's a terrace space out front, great for a coffee after the meal.

An 11am weekend booking: inside and where to sit

We booked ahead and came at 11am on a weekend, a quieter time. Just a heads up — Naver Reservation isn't available from noon to 1pm because it gets busy. Sure enough, the place filled up completely once noon hit.

The hall was spacious with roomy standard 4-person tables. Lots of solo diners too.

On the side there's also private seating for a more secluded meal.

Baby chairs, call bells and self-serve banchan

Baby chairs are set up right next to the self-serve corner. You can help yourself to extra side dishes and take as much as you'll eat.

Every table has a call bell attached. Water cups, condiments, tissues and utensil holders were all kept neat and tidy.

Menu and order: spicy galbi-jjim, king mandu, rice

Here's the menu at Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom. This place is definitely known for yukgaejang near Wonju City Hall — everyone around us was eating yukgaejang! We'll have to try that next visit haha.

What comes with the meal

The owner set the table as soon as we ordered.

A burner for the spicy braised short ribs! And the basic side dishes were laid out too — you guys, the stir-fried fish cake here is seriously so good. That alone could finish off a whole bowl of rice.

How spicy is heat level 1 galbi-jjim?

Lately I've only been craving spicy, fiery, intense flavors... so I considered ordering level 2, but I'm a spice wimp so I went with level 1.

Rice needs to be ordered separately.

The short ribs come precooked, so all that's left is cooking the remaining vegetables! Add the glass noodles and rice cakes once it's boiling — perfect timing. Already drooling...

King mandu, the side to share

Adding the side dish made for a really full spread. I got greedy and ordered a side, but honestly the braised short ribs alone are plenty for two!

The king mandu are all meat-filled. A bite of these when the braised short ribs get too spicy really helps cool things down.

Does the rib meat fall off the bone?

Once the glass noodles and rice cakes were cooked through, they cut the short rib meat into bite-sized pieces for us.

Went to cut it with scissors and the meat just slid right off! Sometimes this cut can be tough and annoying to eat, but at Yukdaejang it was incredibly tender.

See all these bones? There was so much meat too, we ate our fill.
