Hi, this is the Jjeopjjeop Doctor couple. After a drink the night before, we went looking for a hangover cure — Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom, on Roanoke-ro in Wonju, Gangwon.

We ordered yukkal-myeon spice level 1 (₩12,000), cha-dol yukkal-myeon fresh noodles at spice level 2 (₩14,000), a hanbang bossam platter (₩16,000), and a drink (₩2,000).

Atmosphere: a clean, tidy Korean restaurant vibe. As a 24-hour Wonju City Hall-area spot, it worked equally well for solo diners and group gatherings.

Main menu: built around yukgaejang specialties like old-style traditional yukgaejang, yukkal-myeon, and cha-dol yukgaejang.

Is 44,000 won for two good value?

Value: at ₩12,000, yukkal-myeon comes with both the noodle soup and a bowl of rice. The price felt completely justified.

Satisfaction: the broth was excellent and the food quality was consistently high overall! This visit confirmed there's a real reason so many people come here.

Which yukkal-myeon spice level should you order?

For Yukdaejang's yukkal-myeon, we recommend starting at spice level 1. Level 2 is advertised as spicier than Buldak bokkeummyeon, and it truly is! (Even my wife, who loves spicy food, said it was way too hot..)

Yukkal-myeon level 1 built up layer after layer of deep umami flavor from broth long-simmered with beef bone and brisket, spiked with chili oil for a sharp kick. The basic dried noodles kept a springy texture that soaked up the broth without going soft, which we loved.

The cha-dol yukkal-myeon's fresh noodles absorbed the broth in a soft, moist way, so the beef aroma came through in the noodles themselves. The level 2 broth's sharp cheongyang-chili heat hit the back of the tongue hard enough to make us sweat.

How was the hanbang bossam platter?

The hanbang bossam platter (₩16,000) had meat lightly scented with herbal medicine that fell apart tenderly along its grain. Wrapped with kimchi, pickled radish strips, and pickled mustard leaf kimchi, it balanced out the richness of the meat nicely.
