₩40,000 worth of happiness A value-packed review of a Jumunjin Fish Market sashimi restaurant
How much is the small mixed sashimi platter at Minja Hoetjip?
I picked up a small mixed sashimi platter to go from Minja Hoetjip (민자횟집), a sashimi restaurant in Jumunjin. Eating in costs ₩60,000, but takeout is ₩40,000.

Even looking at it again, I'm drooling...
(Probably) mullet & flounder? Sole? These moist, chewy cuts ㅠㅠ The fish-market-style knife work means the slices aren't too thin, and it's fresh, so I love it.
White fish, probably flounder I dipped it in soy sauce and gobbled it right up
Am I the only one who loves white fish...? This truly tender, chewy white fish how could anyone dislike it
What comes with it: abalone, sea squirt, whelk and steamed shrimp
Included with the takeout order Abalone, sea squirt, whelk, and steamed shrimp The sea squirt had a strong ocean aroma but no fishy smell at all, which I liked
The whelk was tasty, nutty even down to the innards And the abalone...! I was shocked how chewy it was...!!! (This is the first time a sashimi restaurant has given me abalone as a side dish...)
🍯How to enjoy sashimi🍯 Put two pieces of sashimi dipped in ssamjang (spicy soybean dip) on a lettuce leaf then top with garlic.... that's what my husband taught me and I ate it that way hahahaha

Looking at it again so fresh and generously packed...!

What the restaurant is like on a weekday at 5pm
I visited Minja Hoetjip around 5pm on a weekday to pick up my order, and there were already a lot of people eating. There were two separate dining areas inside.
Just as you'd expect from Jumunjin Fish Market... There were so many customers inside that it was hard to get a clean shot haha

I only managed to photograph the empty side I don't think I've seen a dining space this spacious and clean in a fish market before
Minja Hoetjip menu and takeout discount prices

The tanks are also kept impressively clean...👍🏻 🥹And on top of that, takeout even gets a discount..✨️

There are just so many snow crabs (haha pun intended...) and they look super fresh with great yield (Next time I'm getting snow crab for sure!!)

Even the clean condensation(?) on the outside of the tank is proof the water temperature and quality are well managed!! If they slack off for even a day, it shows.. keeping it looking clean no matter when you drop by isn't easy.. really impressive👍🏻
The fish are full of life with no signs of injury~~

Maybe that's why it tasted so good..anyway.. Either way it was fresh and delicious and I loved it. My seafood-loving husband devoured it like a storm hahahaha

Taking sashimi home in summer: free ice packs
One more thing about the packaging!! In the hot summer, all takeout orders get free ice packaging..!! (Ice packs were included too..amazing) The owner's thoughtfulness in keeping things fresh...👍🏻👍🏻✨️

With the thickly sliced mixed sashimi you get a chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and soy sauce set + lettuce wraps + sea squirt, abalone, whelk, shrimp + ssamjang and garlic~ Especially the ssamjang, which has a strong doenjang (fermented soybean paste) flavor and bursts with savory umami haha The doenjang aroma really pairs well with the white fish
Beyond live sashimi, they also keep snow crab, king crab and other seafood, seasonal East Sea fish, flounder, rockfish, flatfish, large yellowtail, blowfish, red seabream, pomfret, and even salmon sashimi aged with kelp — so many varieties in stock! (In winter they specialize in blowfish/large yellowtail) They've appeared on the TV show '6 O'Clock My Hometown', and I hear their squid mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) is delicious too so if you're stopping by Jumunjin Fish Market be sure to check out Minja Hoetjip~!
