My go-to for sashimi takeout in Jumunjin — Minja Hoetjip.

There's a place I got sashimi takeout from once before on a Gangneung trip and loved it, so when I came back to Gangneung after a while, I didn't hesitate to go again. I've tried takeout sashimi at plenty of other places too, but honestly it's hard to find anywhere else that cuts the sashimi as thick and delicious as Minja Hoetjip. I recommended it to a friend once, and they were also super satisfied after trying it. Let me tell you all about it!
Where is Minja Hoetjip, and where do you park?
Minja Hoetjip is located inside Jumunjin Fish Market (주문진수산시장). Just follow the path with the sign in the middle of the market and head inward — it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit.

For parking, you can use the Jumunjin Haean Parking Tower public lot right across from the shop — just note that it's paid parking.
Inside Minja Hoetjip: the dining room and the fish tanks
I ordered takeout this time, but Minja Hoetjip is also a place you can sit down and eat. There are seats inside that extend into a side space too, so it felt fairly spacious. The tables have good spacing, which makes it fine for two people to dine together, and it also looked good for larger group gatherings.

One thing I personally loved most about Minja Hoetjip was how clean the fish tanks were kept. I've been to seafood markets and sashimi restaurants in other regions where the tanks felt kind of grimy sometimes. But here, the tanks were managed neatly overall, which made me trust the place even more before I'd even picked up my order.

How to reserve by text 3 days ahead
I also texted to make a reservation 3 days in advance, and they were slicing the sashimi right on time when I arrived. If you show up too early you might have to wait, so I'd recommend timing your visit precisely!
Minja Hoetjip menu and prices: is there a takeout discount?
Minja Hoetjip has a pretty diverse menu lineup. There's everything from snow crab sets to special menus, mixed sashimi, and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), so you can choose based on your taste or group size. It's also licensed to serve blowfish (pufferfish), which is a notable feature since that's not something you can easily find at a typical sashimi restaurant.

If you eat in, the table setting, spicy fish stew, and snow crab steaming fee are said to be free — worth knowing if you're considering dine-in rather than just takeout. There are also various extras depending on the menu, so if you're visiting with a group, it's worth checking out the set menus too.
If you order takeout, various items come as complimentary extras, and a takeout discount may also be available, so keep that in mind :)
What comes in the 60,000 won medium mixed sashimi platter
This time I asked for the medium-size mixed sashimi platter. It costs ₩60,000. It came with lettuce wraps and ssamjang, vinegar gochujang, soy sauce, and wasabi as the basics, along with thick-cut mixed sashimi, plus abalone, sea squirt, conch, and shrimp on the side. It wasn't just sashimi — having various seafood together made it a pretty hearty spread for a full meal.

The mixed sashimi selection seems to change a bit depending on the season. This time it included salmon, sea bream, and flounder — about 4-5 types in total — and they even packed the fins in generously, so the portion was quite satisfying too.

How thick are the slices, and how good is the flounder?
Above all, the reason I love Minja Hoetjip is definitely the thickness of the cuts. It's not thinly sliced sashimi — everything is cut thick overall, so even one piece felt like you were really eating proper sashimi.

The salmon and flounder were especially satisfying this time. The salmon barely had any of that characteristic fishy taste and was soft and easy to eat.

And the flounder was genuinely... one of the chewiest, most delicious flounders I've had in my life, honestly ranking among the best.
Flounder is such a common sashimi that I figured it would taste about the same wherever you get it, but this completely changed my mind. Biting into the thick-cut flounder, you could really feel that chewy texture — personally, flounder is what I'd recommend most. If you order the mixed sashimi at Minja Hoetjip, make sure you try the flounder.
Is Minja Hoetjip worth it for sashimi takeout in Gangneung?
I was happy with this place when I visited with family on a past Gangneung trip, and this time I visited with a friend and we both enjoyed it just as much, which made it even more satisfying. I've gotten sashimi takeout from quite a few places, but Minja Hoetjip is still personally my favorite.
The thick-cut sashimi and clean flavor were the biggest strengths. If you want to eat delicious sashimi without any fishy taste, or you want to relax at your accommodation in Gangneung with sashimi takeout, this is the Jumunjin spot I'd recommend. Whenever I need sashimi takeout on a future Gangneung trip, I'll probably just keep coming back here haha. If you love thick-cut sashimi and want proper sashimi takeout in Gangneung, I recommend Minja Hoetjip in Jumunjin!
