Egg tart pickup near Sokcho Central Market: Doris Patisserie
In short
Doris Patisserie is a bakery near Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, offering pre-order pickup for egg tarts and baked treats. After seeing the long line on the first day of the trip, I reserved original egg tarts and a financier–madeleine set the day before. Verdict: reserve ahead for a crisp, custardy egg tart to take on your Sokcho trip.

On the first day of our Sokcho trip, we went to the Central Market and saw a huge line outside Doris Patisserie, so we hurriedly joined it too. It turned out that sales are mainly by reservation, with only leftover quantities sold on site that day. As soon as we got back to our accommodation, I asked about a reservation, then picked everything up safely on the way home from Sokcho. I’ll share my reservation tips and review so you don’t make a wasted trip like I did.
Where is Doris Patisserie, and where can you park?

Set menu and prices

You need to order a basic six-piece boxed set first before you can add individual items. I picked up a box of original egg tarts and a box of financiers and madeleines.

The original egg tarts (6 pieces / ₩15,000) have a pastry shell with a wonderfully crisp bite, followed by a moist egg filling dotted with vanilla beans that practically bursts out. It is pudding-soft, and one bite makes it obvious why they are so popular.

For the financier and madeleine set (choose 6 / ₩18,000), you can choose from six financiers—original, fig cream cheese, pistachio, coconut, Hwang cheese, and chocolate—and three madeleines—vanilla, lemon, and Earl Grey.
The vanilla madeleine I chose had a gentle vanilla scent and a soft, fluffy texture—one of those flavors everyone would like. The chocolate financier was chewy outside and moist within, with wonderfully rich chocolate flavor. The original financier had a buttery aroma that filled my mouth, yet it was soft rather than dry, which I loved.
How do reservations and walk-in purchases work?

There are three to four pickup rounds a day, timed around the baking schedule, with each round lasting about an hour.
Hours for each round
- Round 1: reservation pickup 10:00–10:20 / walk-in sales from 10:20 until sold out
- Round 2: reservation pickup 12:00–12:20 / walk-in sales from 12:20 until sold out
- Round 3: reservation pickup 15:00–15:20 / walk-in sales from 15:20 until sold out
- The same schedule applies Monday through Sunday. Walk-in sales proceed in waiting order only if items remain after reservation pickups.
Send a text to ask about a reservation from 6:00 a.m. on the morning before your visit, and you will receive a confirmation reply within two hours. Please avoid inquiries after 8:00 p.m. Walk-in sales are offered in waiting order only when quantities remain after reserved customers have collected their orders, and they may not happen at all if everything sells out early, so I absolutely recommend reserving the day before.
How to store and reheat egg tarts

Egg tarts are crispiest on the day you buy them, but they are also tasty chilled after refrigeration. Reheat them in an air fryer or oven at 180°C for 2–3 minutes and that fresh-baked flavor comes back to life, so they are great to bring home too. I do not recommend the microwave!

Freeze the financiers and eat them cold for twice the chewiness. Eat the madeleines within two to three days, or let them thaw naturally before eating.
They keep until the same day at room temperature, for two days refrigerated, or for two weeks frozen; when freezing, sealing them tightly is essential.

It is such a shame to come home from a trip without getting to try a famous local spot, isn’t it? If you are planning a Sokcho trip, text ahead to reserve the day before and try these egg tarts. There is also something really nice about taking one out to eat in the car on the way home, and the neat box packaging makes them lovely travel gifts for family or friends. These are life-changing egg tarts that nail both crispness and moisture—if you are going to Sokcho Central Market, do not forget to pick some up 💕
