Rainy-day bar on Sokcho's pojangmacha street: Seo Jubang

Seo Jubang is a jugeon (drinking-food) bar on the Sokcho pojangmacha street near Yeongnang Beach. I went with a friend on a rainy day in Sokcho because we wanted good side dishes with our drinks.

I usually care a lot about good side dishes when drinking, and this place stuck with me because everything — from the juansang platter to the sides — was satisfying overall. We happened to visit on a rainy day and the atmosphere was great too, so I wanted to introduce this Sokcho pojangmacha street bar to anyone looking for good drinks with good food :)

Seo Jubang, a bar good for Sokcho group dinners, is located on the Sokcho pojangmacha street near Yeongnang Beach. Parking is available at the Yeongnang Beach public street parking area, which is handy if you're driving. Since it's right by the beach, it's a good stop for an evening during a trip, and also convenient for anyone staying nearby who wants a drink :)

Inside Seo Jubang: window seats in the rain and group tables

The interior of Seo Jubang feels cozy and warm overall, but with enough of a modern touch that it doesn't feel old-fashioned — a comfortable spot to sit and drink. It happened to be raining that day, and since Seo Jubang has floor-to-ceiling windows, we could see the rain falling right outside. The soft indoor lighting combined with the rainy view outside made for a really nice atmosphere ☔️

We came as just the two of us, but the store had group seating well arranged, and plenty of groups came in while we were eating. So while it's fine for two people dropping in casually, it also seemed like a solid choice for a Sokcho group dinner spot or gathering place.

The restroom is inside the store, which was convenient, and the women's restroom was clean with two stalls — handy when you've been drinking. You know how important the restroom situation is once you start drinking, right??

Seo Jubang's juansang with warm boiled pork and cheese kimchi pancake

You know a place that serves water like this is a real find, right..? haha. What we ordered that day was:

• Juansang (with boiled pork)
• Cheese kimchi pancake

The juansang platter lets you try several side dishes at once, so it was more fun to pick and choose than just ordering one single item to drink with! We chose warm boiled pork as the main, which adds ₩3,000. Warm boiled pork was an excellent choice on a rainy day..!

The juansang platter came with more variety than I expected, so it was great for two people drinking. Normally raw squid sashimi comes as a default item, but that day we got seasoned squid instead. The color wasn't very red so I wondered if it was even seasoned, but seriously, hats off to the chef here.. the squid was cooked and seasoned just right ㅠㅠ It's honestly in my top 3 seasoned squid dishes I've ever had!

It wasn't just one standout dish — everything on the juansang platter was tasty overall, so the soju really went down smoothly that day... let's just say my friend and I quietly finished five bottles of soju between us.

Abai sundae (blood sausage) with salted seafood — need I say more.. And the minari (water dropwort) aroma with the warm boiled pork was such a perfect match for a rainy day, I was so happy ㅠㅠ Among everything, what stuck with me most was

The standouts: pollock roe potato and pickled tomato

The pollock roe potato combined soft potato with salty pollock roe for a nutty, savory flavor — a bit different from the usual side dishes, so it was especially delicious.

The pickled tomato was also completely my type. Sweet, tangy, and clean-tasting, it was great to pick at between other dishes. You know how one refreshing item like this keeps your hand reaching back for it while drinking, right haha.

🧀 Cheese kimchi pancake at Seo Jubang

It felt like too much to stop at just the juansang platter, so we also ordered the cheese kimchi pancake! It's a salty kimchi pancake topped with cheese and corn butter — delicious warm, but I actually liked it even more once it cooled slightly, when it got nuttier and more flavorful 🧀

Is Seo Jubang worth it? Verdict and tips

Seo Jubang, a bar on the Sokcho pojangmacha street, was a place where I genuinely drank well for the first time in a while. Most of all, the juansang platter lets you sample several side dishes at once, so it seems great for visiting with a group too 🍻

They're also running a generous event where writing a Naver receipt review gets you a free serving of raw squid sashimi — definitely worth joining!

The pollock roe potato and pickled tomato we had that day were dishes I hadn't easily found elsewhere, so they stayed with me even more ㅠㅠ If you're in the mood to eat great side dishes and properly drink, this is a Sokcho pojangmacha street bar I'd recommend!
