Geomdan Incheon pork barbecue family meal: Taedon

On a weekday evening when my mother came to visit, my husband and I went to Taedon Geomdan Sageori Branch, making three of us in total. We had an assorted platter of Korean pork with kimchi stew and mul-naengmyeon, and the variety of complimentary dishes served with the meat made the meal filling.

When we arrived on a weekday evening, some guests were already eating. The dining room was clean, and the tables were spaced generously, which made it comfortable to help my mother move around and sit down. The staff also gave us friendly guidance from the moment we entered.

What comes complimentary with a meat order?

When we visited, ordering meat came with five complimentary side dishes at no extra charge. We could start with the steamed egg and jjolmyeon while waiting for the meat to cook, and the mushrooms and flat dumplings were good with the barbecue.

What went well with the pork belly?

The assorted Korean pork platter included several cuts, including pork belly and pork neck. We grilled the meat with mushrooms, and 600g with the complimentary sides and meal dishes was plentiful for the three of us.

We first dipped grilled pork belly in the Dubai chewy ssamjang. The savory juices of the meat were joined by the texture of the kataifi. I also remember wrapping grilled bracken, shredded radish, and a piece of meat in a flat dumpling. My mother ate well, saying the meat was tender and had no unpleasant smell.

How were the kimchi stew and mul-naengmyeon as accompaniments?

The kimchi stew contained plenty of thick-cut pork. Its rich, spicy broth combined the flavor of aged kimchi with the savory meat, and my husband finished a bowl of rice with it.

After eating the barbecue, we ordered dessert mul-naengmyeon. The broth, with thin ice floating in it, was refreshing and helped clear the palate. We finished the meal by wrapping a remaining piece of meat around the chewy noodles.

When is a good time to visit on a weekday evening?

On the weekday we visited, more guests began arriving after 6:30 p.m. Based on that evening, arriving a little early between 5:30 and 6 p.m. would be better if you want a more relaxed meal.

For this family meal, I especially liked the generous table spacing and variety of complimentary sides. Both my mother and husband enjoyed the meat, and it was satisfying to have so many accompaniments, from steamed egg and jjolmyeon to flat dumplings.
